Fleshbot is a sex-oriented weblog , founded by Gawker Media . It was launched in November 2003 as the third online title from Gawker. The range of subject matter includes everything from amateur sex blogs and thumbnail gallery posts to news about sex in popular culture and advertising . The blog covers both heterosexual and homosexual erotica [1] and users have the ability to filter between the two if they choose.

Fleshbot was previously edited by Lux Alptraum, who owned the site from 2012. [2] In February 2014, Fleshbot was purchased by SK Intertainment from Lux Alptraum. It was announced that Alptraum would remain with Fleshbot as a contributing editor. [3]

The porn gods may be smiling on Fleshbot, the new blogging-for-bucks pornography venture of media entrepreneur Nick Denton.
Denton, founder of gossip blog Gawker and techno blog Gizmodo, launched Fleshbot.com this week just as sex tapes of socialite and budding reality-TV ingnue Paris Hilton hit the virtual world. Scandalous porn video landed smack in the middle of mainstream news, and Fleshbot had the story.
But beyond that stroke of luck, Fleshbot may have found a niche as a webzine for aficionados of both pornography and the technology that now drives much of it.
"I think that Fleshbot helps prove there are literate, intelligent, job-holding, well-educated people who don't live with their mothers, but are interested in porn," said Carly Milne, a Fleshbot scout who trolls the Web for fresh links for the site.
"Of course the site is meant to titillate, but they aren't all just interested in rubbing off and going to sleep," she added. "They are also interested in the photography and the technology of it all."
Updated several times daily, Fleshbot is structured like other weblogs, complete with an ongoing log of rants and commentary on the latest porn happenings, links to porn sites of preference, pics alongside each entry and a blogroll. On par with some of the more sophisticated blogs, however, it also has several sections of categorized content, including both straight and gay porn.
Of course, there's plenty of the usual porn fare on Jenna Jameson's dildo auction (she's losing the Googlefight to Paris Hilton, by the way), links to hard-core DVD reviews, ample photos and contests like Rate My Implants.
But it's the site's cheeky writing and uncluttered design that may set it apart from other porn sites, which about 32 million Americans -- or 24 percent of U.S. Internet users -- visited in September, according to Nielsen/NetRatings . Equal in prominence to typical porn categories like Amateur and Hardcore on Fleshbot are technophile-targeted categories like Morph and CGI.
In the Morph section, for instance, editor/blogger Jonno d'Addario writes a blurb that epitomizes the topic (sex), angle (technology and pop culture), tone (sarcastic), content (pictures) and scope (international) of Fleshbot:
"(Blogger) JagEsquire at TransparentSmoke takes Maxim to task for -- gasp! -- allegedly altering a photograph of Hungarian starlet Kata Dobo in this month's issue. The way we see it, it could've been a lot worse."
The blurb links to a site containing altered images of female celebrities. What's been morphed, surprisingly, is not cup size. It's the noses of famous models and actresses.
Sex writer Susannah Breslin , who considers d'Addario's writing "smart, sexy and snarky," said Fleshbot reaches an audience that other porn e-zines have yet to capture: intelligent hipsters who like porn.
"I think Fleshbot is a good representation of where porn is going," Breslin said. "It's smart, and funny and hip, and I think it makes looking at smut cool instead of trashy."
Denton , a former journalist for the Financial Times of London , is a mercurial figure who founded search-service provider Moreover Technologies before creating Gawker Media, a publishing company that runs the popular Gawker gossip blog, among others.
He initially agreed to be interviewed about his newest venture, but then hastily declined, saying he wanted word about the site to grow virally on the Web so people could "make judgments about it on their own."
However, Denton hasn't been shy about stoking the hype for Fleshbot. He reportedly leaked an "internal memo" about the site to popular blogger Steve MacLaughlin right before the site launched. The memo lends some insight into the tech and pop intentions of the site.
"Computer-generated porn is produced by a weird underground of artists and perverts, who trade wireframe body parts ," the memo reads. "There's no reason why one can't write about porn from the perspective of the pop art historian."
Breslin described Denton's leak of the memo as a brilliant media ploy.
"Fleshbot is a business; it's not about blogging or people taking back the media. It's about the bottom line," Breslin said. "It's a funny dichotomy of maintaining that blogger persona while cultivating mainstream attention, without talking to the media."
That said, it remains to be seen whether the advertising-supported site will be financially successful. Cheap software, unoriginal content and the free viral marketing of blogs make investment costs quite low, however. And Denton already has managed to attract big advertisers like Absolut Vodka for Gawker.
While some bloggers, usually ex-journalists, reportedly net $80,000 annually, most bring in a modest income. Denton has said his nanopublishing model, therefore, is to generate a substantial income by having a couple of dozen sites.
Of course, the site's lucky break to launch alongside the Paris Hilton news won't hurt. Fleshbot's ability to break celebrity sex news brought it 170,000 hits on its first day.
"Once the site went online, the impact because of the video was almost immediate -- it crashed the server," said Milne, the Fleshbot scout who runs her own porn blog . "We were the first to have still and video clips on the site."
