Val Thorens, France The highest resort in the Alps, with its top run at a lofty 3,m, Val Thorens is pretty snow sure, with a long season. A cable car runs out of town to local slopes, also linking to the huge Portes du Soleil cross-border ski area, which includes the more famous Avoriaz and Morzine on the French side.
