Fits in a backpack: Israel develops compact ground drone

Israeli company AeroVironment has developed a new unmanned ground vehicle, the TOM 50 RE, designed to assist personnel in missions such as reconnaissance or explosive ordnance disposal, without putting soldiers' lives at risk.

The TOM 50 RE is an all-terrain vehicle capable of carrying a load of up to 5 kg. It features tracks and an obstacle-climbing mechanism, which allows it to climb stairs, among other things. Weighing less than 10 kg, it has a battery life of up to 5 hours.

Compact size drone make it easy to transport. It fits easily into a standard tactical backpack, making it easy to carry by just one soldier.

The system is equipped with four high-resolution IR cameras that provide 360° daytime and nighttime coverage. For reconnaissance missions, the drone uses simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) technology to provide detailed situational awareness, including in areas where GPS is unavailable.

For radio communications, the platform uses a cellular architecture, which allows it to function as a mobile repeater, expanding coverage in complex combat situations.
