One night at a friend's house party, a somewhat confident Dave meets a cool and artistic girl named Aubrey. She helps him with his romantic feelings for Jane. They talk about Dave's feelings, and he believes he should tell Jane how he feels. They soon get interrupted by the cops showing up, but decide to walk home together. As the weekend begins, the new friends start to hang out, as well as discuss their relationship... And their virginity. Dave becomes more and more interested in Aubrey, and she reciprocates. Even though she is involved with Roni (her soon to be ex), she has trouble denying her true feelings for Dave. There is one problem, however, Dave is going off to college in another city. Aubrey still has one year left of high school. Will they be able to handle a long distance relationship? Is their love strong enough? Or will Dave chose Jane, the girl of his dreams instead. — Jamie Paton

When Aubrey and Dave are driving after he picked her up at her house, Aubrey's hair is curly. When she steps out of the car on the parking lot, her hair is straight, and in the next scene, the kissing scene in front of her house, her hair is curly again.

One of the Best Teen Love Films of Recent Times
I go back quite aways to A Summer Place and Parish,yet even as a senior citizen I found The First Time to be a refreshingly honest and well acted film highlighted by the performance of Britt Robertson, a young actress who unfortunately is in the shade of Jennifer Lawrence and Ellen Page...yet I hope she can find he way into the sun because she has a lot to offer. The film, although light hearted, doesn't deal in mind numbing clichés. It is about the real emotions of modern high school kids, who you realize aren't that much different from the kids of my generation. It's nice to see a film where kids actually fall deeply for each other rather than just fleeting sexual attraction.

"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" is a 1957 folk song written by British political singer/songwriter Ewan MacColl for Peggy Seeger, who later became his wife. At the time, the couple were lovers, although MacColl was still married to Joan Littlewood. Seeger sang the song when the duo performed in folk clubs around Britain. During the 1960s, it was recorded by various folk singers and became a major international hit for Roberta Flack in 1972, winning Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Billboard ranked it as the no. 1 Hot 100 single of the year for 1972.
