Fist Full of Garlic (AM01-CHARLIE-07)

ENL

It was with some excitement that we received word that AM01-Charlie-07 (Silicon Valley, South San Francisco and other parts of the greater Bay Area) was selected as a connected cell. Twice various regions of the Bay had been connected cells; twice had seen significant victories. Much has changed since the Elder Days of Ingress - what would happen in 2022 and would the third time prove a charm?

As a field planner, we live for these large fielding challenges - large multi-nation ops, anomaly fields, connected cells. Every one is a chance to step outside the normal day to day fielding and see if we can go somewhere brand new.

The only question was: Where would Superposition take us?

It just so happens we have a list!

23 Parks

19 Trail Heads

9 Post Offices

Which is to say, an only slightly more busy than normal week in Bay Area Ingress. :)

The week before and during the cycle, agents in San Francisco, Brisbane, Colma, San Jose, Oakland, Alameda, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Palo Alto, Stanford, San Mateo, San Bruno, Fremont, Hayward, Union City, Angel Island, Loma Mar, Pescadero, San Gregario, Marin, Gilroy, Morgan Hill, Pleasanton, Livermore, Aptos, Santa Cruz, Scott’s Valley, Boulder Creek, Castroville, Watsonville, Point Arena, Sonoma, Napa, Monterrey, Atherton, and Woodside (now a Mountain Lion sanctuary?) came together to help compete in this cycle.

Together, the Enlightened brought down the hammer on the connected cell challenge. Starting with a single link from a garlic-themed amusement park (thrown two days before the cycle), we pivoted into a fielding complex never before seen in the Bay’s History. Along with this complex of megafields and gigafields, agents all over the Bay threw layers; more often, more anchors, and more MU.

These fields allowed us to bury the needle over the course of the seven days of the competition, freeing up valuable time and energy for other agents to keep the Resistance score in the red.

How did we do? During this cycle, we:

  • Checkpointed 420 million mind units; more than any septicycle in the Bay Area’s 8.5 years of fielding.
  • Scored more than 4 MMU every checkpoint in the cycle.
  • Saw the most improvement between two Enlightened cycle scores in the cell’s history.
  • Kept the Resistance in negative delta with an average of 326k mind units; their lowest score in at least three years.
  • Provided a shutout score of 10-0 for the Enlightened.

Of course, one of the great strengths of the fielding game is that past successes may be no guarantee of future returns. So while we are enormously happy with this outcome, we also know that there are many challenges to come.

For now, our focus shifts to preparing for the anomaly in Los Angeles on November 12th. If you have enjoyed this little account of our week, consider joining us for that next challenge; we hope to see you all there. :)
