First meeting with the Ambassador of Lithuania

On June 17, at the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction the first meeting was held between First Deputy Minister Ilkhom Norkulov with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Uzbekistan Eitvydas Bajarūnas.

           The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Consul of Lithuania in our country, Farukh Kadyrbekov, as well as representatives of the Department for Integration Development and Bilateral Economic Cooperation and the Department for the Development of Innovative and Digital Economy of the Ministry.

           The main topics for discussion were the current state and possible prospects for long-term cooperation. The guests were informed about the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, including in the field of poverty reduction, improvement of agriculture, land relations, IT technologies, human capital and others.

Mr. Eitvydas Bajarūnas highlighted a number of areas that have received special development in the Republic of Lithuania and are of interest to our country. Among them are small and medium-sized businesses, transport and transportation, furniture manufacturing and information technology. The ambassador also noted that next year it is planned to hold the next meeting of the intergovernmental commission, which will give impetus to discuss issues and develop proposals for further cooperation between the two states.

In turn, the Lithuanian side was invited to take part in the international conference "New directions of economic development in the post-pandemic period" which is planned to be held in the near future in Tashkent.

           Following the meeting, the parties agreed to organize an online videoconference with the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Economy and Innovation of Lithuania to determine further areas of cooperation between the two departments.
