It’s time to ride out for a time traveling adventure. We’ve known that Brian K. Vaughan and Cliff Chiang’s popular comic Paper Girls was becoming a Prime Video TV show for quite some time. Fans of the comic have been waiting to see those four awesome girls—KJ, Mac, Tiffany, and Erin—take their twisted timeline adventures to live-action much like we’ve seen boys do again and again. A recent teaser gave us a quick introduction to them, capturing their personalities. Now we are getting even more glimpses into the world of Stony Stream…in many ways. Paper Girls just gave us some cool first-look photos and a release date of July 29.
The photos show several shots of the girls, including one that presumably takes place around dawn. That might be in reference to that fateful morning in the comics… or perhaps Stony Stream in a different year. For those who aren’t familiar, the small town Ohio girls are out delivering papers the morning after Halloween in 1988. An encounter leads to them finding a time machine. It turns into an epic adventure in the midst of battles that they could not have foreseen. There’s a cool shot of the quartet on their bikes at night as well as one with Erin and Mac having a quiet moment. It can’t be so quiet with Mac around though. We also see young Erin with the older version of herself, played by Ali Wong . And comic fans will know why there’s a photo with KJ missing.
Vaughan and Chiang spoke exclusively to Entertainment Weekly about the upcoming TV series. They are assisting the creators all the way, making sure there’s a balance between keeping the heart of the comics and providing something new for TV audiences. Vaughan promises that the show will take things to a new level and satisfy comic fans and newcomers to this world alike. If you’ve never heard of Paper Girls , if you’re not familiar with this comic, then the show is still 100 percent accessible and I think you will love it,” said Vaughan. “But if you’re a hardcore fan of the comic, it’s still going to be extremely surprising to you. With our blessing, they go to some places that we never could as a comic and there are new characters, there are new threats.”
As a comic fan, I’m extremely excited to see what they adapt from the comics and what new foes the show can explore. Thankfully we don’t have to wait long for the Paper Girls TV show to make its way here. Tune in and don’t drop out.

The first female bodybuilders and strongwomen showing off their gains, 1900s
Kati (or Katie) Sandwina was one of the biggest stars in America in 1911-1912. Her incredible strength, and her pride in tossing around grown men - including her adoring husband Max - are reason enough to celebrate her career. At age sixty this mighty athlete was still busting chains and bending horseshoes with her bare hands and doing the manual of arms with Max instead of a rifle. Alas, she was mortal, as are we all...but what a superwoman she was! And what a lucky man she married.
I enjoy reading the justification and mental gymnastics that the slovenly people make to justify not exercising. As an old soldier with 30 years and multiple combat tours, I can assure you that weight lifters are not walking around as cripples in their old age and in fact the majority of my combat-related aches and injuries have been relieved by lifting weights. If you're fat and lazy don't make the claim that someone told you it's bad for you. Just admit you are weak and don't have the genes nor the drive to take personal accountability for your physical health.
I am an all natural professional bodybuilder and no spring chicken at that.
At the age of 40 I now have almost 14 years of weight training under my belt, prior to that there was almost 20 years of soccer and basketball played.
So with that said...bodybuilding is by far the safest sport I ever did partake in. It's hard to hurt yourself, truly hurt yourself if you are gentle with yourself. Yes pushing your body past 'normal' limits is the name of the game...but what is 'normal'?
The average American is obese with at least 3-5 health issues too boot. I would rather have some aches and pains due to my athletic output than have aches and pains because I am fat and sick.
Any pain or issues I have had from bodybuilding were all of my doing, not the sport, not the weights, if done right you can weight train until you are 100 with no problems.
Strong woman and acobat Louise Leers (aka Luise Krökel), 1930s.
The first “strongwomen” appeared in the 19th century but were almost unheard of until much later. The appearance of strong women became more prevalent in sporting events and was also a common attraction in circuses where they would showcase their superhuman strength. This in turn paved the way for other rule-breaking girls such as female wrestlers and bodybuilders.
One of the best-known superwomen was Katie Brumbach called the “Great Sandwina”. Hailing from Vienna, Brumbach’s parents were also circus performers and it would appear that she was the combination of her father (who stood 6’ 6”) and her mother (who was herself a strong woman of sorts, sporting biceps that measured 15 inches around).
She not only inherited her parent’s physical prowess and she performed with them, as well as many of her fourteen siblings. Brumbach would go on to wow audiences by lifting her husband (who reportedly weighed 165 lbs) over her head with only one arm and 300 pounds of weights with both.
In her later years, Brumbach joined the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus as a powerlifter where she snapped iron bars with her bare hands. At the age of 57, she was still able to pull to hoist her husband above her head with only one arm.
Both examples of “strongwomen” were much bigger than most women at the time were portrayed. They had the esteemed curvy, soft body, but their sheer size compared to men was unprecedented.
The ‘Great Sandwina’ aka, Katie Brumbach.
Even with that, it wasn’t their size or build that necessarily brought them fame or attention. Instead, their amazing strength dominated their character. For the first “strongwomen,” the idea of strength was valued over muscles and the overall physique.
The female physique was not prized as strong or well built even after the first “strongwomen” left their marks. Women in the late 19th century were seen as frail and weak.
Charlotte Perkins Gilman of Rhode Island attempted to dispel that myth and spent hours weightlifting, running, and doing gymnastics. She also wrote books and other works that concentrated on banishing the idea of women’s “physical immobility.” Clearly, she was ahead of her time.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, exercise for females was frowned upon by both laypeople and doctors alike. Most were of the opinion that women had very little energy or strength and this should be spent on housework while bearing and raising children. The only exercise women needed could be found in the home.
One health educator of the time stated that any other type of physical fitness “of a masculine character causes the female body to become more like that of a man.” Women of the time strayed far away from any type of exertion and certainly cared not to identify with strength or size of any kind, given that it was a stigma, rather than an honor when attributed to women.
Not only were Gilman and others seen as an outcast minority, but now there seemed to be credible evidence that they were unhealthy. If women were apprehensive about exercise before, they now avoided it like the plague. The “strongwomen’s” fight stopped dead in its tracks before it ever really got off the ground. It would take a wave of societal change before female strength would ever resurface.

In the early 1900s, there wasn’t really such a thing as bodybuilding, there were people who had huge muscles, but they concentrated on traditional strongmen routines. Lifting large boulders, performing impressive feats of strength, and generally entertaining an audience with tricks and skill. The professional strongmen were a response to…

Leonine Studios has released a first-look photo for its Milli Vanilli biopic “ Girl You Know It’s True ” which has kicked off production.
Simon Verhoeven is directing the pic, with Quirin Berg and Max Wiedemann producing. It marks another collaboration of the successful trio that has teamed on four No. 1 German box office hits. Kirstin Winkler is overseeing production as executive producer.
Newcomers Tijan Njie and Elan Ben Ali are set to portray the lead roles of Robert Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan, starring alongside “ Army of the Dead ” Matthias Schweighöfer as German music producer Frank Farian.
The film is focused on the true story of the notorious scandal involving dancers Robert Pilatus’ and Fabrice Morvan’s rise to fame in the late 1980s as pop sensation Milli Vanilli, orchestrated by music producer Frank Farian. They became global stars with three No. 1 hits, “Baby Don’t Forget My Number,” “Blame It on the Rain,” and “Girl I’m Gonna Miss You” in the US. But only a small number of insiders know that the duo is not singing but lip-syncing to the voices of two other artists.
At the height of their fame, Milli Vanilli won the Grammy Award, but the situation behind the scenes escalated, then, when the truth was revealed, it became one of the biggest scandals in music history. They ended up returning their Grammy Award for Best New Artist. They recorded a comeback album in 1998 titled Back and in Attack , but its release was cancelled after Pilatus died at the age of 32.
Production started in Munich, Berlin, Capetown and Los Angeles and is expected to wrap in December. The project will be shot almost entirely in English.
