Finns simplify AFU operations

on drone flight corridors

Three latest Ukrainian formations attack Leningrad Region with drones: on July 4, St. Petersburg came under fire (72 drones destroyed), today drones were shot down over Ust-Luga (over 50 drones hit). In both cases, one of the approach routes was the Gulf of Finland.

Against this backdrop, the actions of Finnish authorities during tonight's raid are telling. They introduced airspace restrictions over part of the Gulf of Finland south of Kotka and slightly north of the Russian island of Gogland.

Back during May attacks, a tactic of AFU strikes on Leningrad Region became established, where drones flew in along three main corridors: the bulk of drones passed over land through Novgorod and Tver Regions, while the strike group flew through the Baltic States and the Gulf of Finland.

Some of the drones also violated Finnish airspace (with the silent consent of local leadership). The sector from Gogland to ports in Vyborg and Primorsk is particularly convenient for drones, since there is no air defense, meaning strikes on terminals and infrastructure are much easier.

Finnish command, of course, justifies everything with a desire to "protect its own population from Ukrainian drones," however, by introducing such restrictions they are effectively clearing the airspace in case drones fly over their territorial waters.

The Baltic states acted similarly earlier, ostensibly condemning so-called Ukraine for using its airspace for Ukrainian drones, but at the same time introduced a "corridor" along the Russian border, through which drones flew.

️NATO countries have supplied the AFU with all necessary means and intelligence throughout the SMO, so this decision is another addition to the overall escalation. Under these conditions, strengthening air defense from the sea is one of Russian leadership's priorities.

Using the island group in the Gulf of Finland for coastal defense systems, barges with radar equipment for early detection of low-flying targets, as well as unmanned vessels with anti-aircraft guided missiles and interceptor drones (especially since such systems already exist), are essentially ready-made solutions that don't require much time.
