Filters Stories!
drddWhat an ISP provides is internet connection with filters they keep in control and never published for the public to know before paying their service.
I came across reading an order for blocking a list of domains including medium.com only because it had one url to a 3rd party hosting a movie. The order was technically specified "We are ordering all ISP according to law X to block below domains list as a complaint from agency Y was that those domains are providing their clients copyrighted movie unlawfully. Luckily the ISPs in Albania are not smart enough to use IP blocking but only DNS blocking (or maybe they do not have resources to do such blocking). Where i'm from there is no law that forces ISP to transparently publish the block-list, but there is for blocking sites if ordered by a corrupted judge that bought in their job position.
I remember when they tried to block bet365 from a new law that was trying to punish everyone that was into sports bets. Some people did get away using third-party websites. Basically bet365 and some other official bet sites where blocked by IP at that time but after some time it was unblocked, not sure what happened. Later on some people hosted their own bookings for bets with their private bet sites making a ton of tax evasion. But you know according to news only people get arrested for some months, no money is found anywhere!
Not long ago a friend told me he could not reach me out in Whatsapp video or audio calls because he was in UAE. He told me only in his work there where no firewall filters for Whatsapp but at his home he was trying to reach me but the calls where dropped. After a quick study i found out they did block all VPNs but not a particular one which was already referred by network technicians to use it by buying the app "BOTIM - Unblocked Video Call and Voice Call".
They are trying to block sensitive materials, but blocking VoIP its hilarious. At the times of coronavirus/covid19 people are at last raising their voice to unban those services but after reading Pavel Durov article Why WhatsApp Will Never Be Secure i think privacy is another concern for whatsapp voip service.
After a heavy study on VPNs with different protocols like l2tp, ipsec, openvpn and other kind of proxies like socks5, v2ray bbr+, shadowsocks (owner was ordered to stop programming), tor (with some ISP that are blocking exit nodes maybe because of the need for commercial usages from china but thats another story to be researched), blocking mechanisms from China GFW and UAEs attempts to censorship their internet and many other countries trying to censorship their internet, i came to a conclusion, the internet is not free yet.
Even if block-lists are needed for the future, why not be transparent about it. Why not put a blockchain transparency list for all countries and ISPs in the world so we know what is being blocked and why!
A simple questions is raised
How it is weighted what "everyones filters must be" for their internet to be righteous by their standards?
And i know my standards, they are global freedom and smart solutions for the society by not forcing anything, but only by giving guidance for their future choices.
The future of human kind might be get tainted if people are forced to do things a country is ruling, which creates a pyramid of its own. Who decides what the rules are, some 30 politicians and legislators or the whole population of millions.
Everyone fits in on their society they are born into, then everyone is forced to play by this "society" rules (although we know its the leaders doing their "job") because thats exactly how we are behaving, like a pre-trained model!
Another question is raised
What obstacles decide what is right or wrong on a society?
I believe only one thing can keep going on in the future and that is science, because only science can lead the humanity forward to the future. We can create socially needed rules with science, but only if it is scientifically logical. There are solutions for everything if we use effort.
Knowing any country having some hand on wired internet we know they always never leave the opportunity escape. The internet was created to be free, not tainted. Reading Starlink project i guess the internet could be just a little more free.
Thanks for reading
Peace and march forward to the global free future
