Now that people are finally leaving their pandemic hibernations and going out into the world once again, not only are the movies back, but real-life dating as well. Enter: Date night. For those looking to take things to the next level, this year promises a new slate of sexy films to get you in the mood.
Many of 2022âs sexiest films carry a sense of danger , and demand that the viewer leave their comfort zones behind to enter some perilous new activities. Whether itâs to normalize BDSM play, like in Love & Leaches , or to commit flat-out murder in films like Deep Water and X , love doesnât come easy as directors break the mold to try and become one of the sexiest movies of all time .

Sure, bringing your Tinder boyfriend along to a trip where someone gets killed doesnât exactly exude âmeet-cute,â but nothing amps up sexual tension quite like fighting for your life.
A retired teaching waiting in a hotel room for her young mystery lover to arrive might feel like the premise of an⊠adult film. And, of course, in many ways, Good Luck to You, Leo Grande is a very adult filmâfollowing Emma Thompsonâs character as she sets out to have her first orgasm (and many subsequent ones) with young sex worker Leo Grande. But the film is also a beautiful coming-of-middle-age story about sexual awakening, aging, and humanity. Perfect if youâre looking for an out-of-the-box rom-com.

And when her old boyfriends start mysteriously turning up dead, she starts looking for clues.
A South Korean romantic comedy about workplace power dynamics, Jung Ji-woo enters a "play" contract with her male coworker after discovering his guilty secret: he's into male-submissive BDSM. Intrigued, she becomes his "master" and bosses him around the office until real feelings surprise them both.
One of the breakout films of this year's SXSW showcase, X is a rural-set Texas horror about the '70s porn industry. Shooting a porno-flick called The Farmer's Daughter , the actors soon find themselves starring in something more akin to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre . The small-budget indie film, starring Mia Goth and singer Kid Cudi, pays homage to classic, sexy slasher films while remaining audaciously erotic.

Thanks to a perceptive script by real- life former cam girl Isa Mazzei , Cam is often an examination of fractured identity, something thatâs definitely not limited to the world of adult entertainment. Cam stumbles a bit at the ending, but itâs full of provocative ideas, and Brewer just floors you.

In this massive hit for the streaming service, a smokin' hot babe with an air of innocence about her is kidnapped by a mafioso who happens to be a 10/10 chiseled stud. The crime boss gives the young lady one year to fall in love with him; sexy antics ensue!
365 Days is essentially Fifty Shades of Grey with Italian flavor. The storytelling is as clunky Fifty Shades , and the story has been equally chided for its misogynistic undertones. None of that prevented the skin flick from becoming one of Netflix's biggest successes of the year. The envelope-pushing nudity and sexual content helped it become the domain's most-watched movie in summer 2020.

Like the bodies on display, this plot is a beauty, told in non-linear fashion with some suspense and surprise. To ruin it would be a disservice. Just watch it already.

So abundant we might as well make them their own genre, movies about kidnapped females generally go one of two ways: Itâs either all about the suspense, figuring out how and if she will get outâor thereâs the nastier route, the really low road, when some movies focus on a womanâs torture and humiliation, turning it into spectacle.
Though Australian director Cate Shortland âs adaptation of Melanie Joosten âs novel about a tourist imprisoned by a handsome teacher after a passionate one-night-stand is a thriller (quite heart-pounding at times), and much of the womanâs mistreatment is extremely hard to watch, this highly absorbing psychological drama stands out because itâs all about the characters and whatâs going on in their heads. It also differs from other films of its ilk in that this nightmare begins with genuine erotic tension and heat, a mutual attraction.
Aussie-born Teresa Palmer of Hacksaw Ridge fame delivers a ripper of a performance as a victim suffering in stages not unlike the stages of grieving. German Max Riemelt ( Sense8 ) keeps up every step of the way as her chilling and multifaceted captor, but this is Palmerâs film, and it gave the dynamite actress long-relegated to playing love-interest side characters a serious calling card in Hollywood.

AKA Elisa y Marcela , Isabel Coixet 's erotic historical drama is an account of Marcela Gracia Ibeas and Elisa SĂĄnchez Loriga , and the first same-sex marriage of Spain's modern era. A Spanish production (in Spanish and Portuguese with subtitles), Elisa & Marcela was selected to compete for the Golden Bear at the 69th Berlin Film Festival, and received a limited theatrical release via Netflix.
The much-hyped sequel has gotten critical reception so chilly (0% on Rotten Tomatoes, all of "8" on Metacritic) it makes the original look like The Bridge on the River Kwai . Nevertheless, 365 Days: This Day has proven another massive hit for Netflix. In This Day , lovers Laura and Massimo aim to move on with their lives post-mafia conflict. Massimo's past and a love triangle are among the lovers' new obstacles. The film has been noted forâwhat elseâits graphic, constant sex scenes, including a golf scene that bends the traditional rules of the game.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in 'Eyes Wide Shut'
About as chilly as a Christmas movie can be, Stanley Kubrick âs final film is an intense drama about the one-night sexually-charged odyssey of a New York doctor (Cruise) whose wife ( Nicole Kidman ) has confessed to fantasizing about another man. Kubrick died six days after showing his final cut to Warner Bros., and in order to avoid an NC-17 rating, the film received extensive edits (the original, far superior cut is now widely available on DVD and streaming).
Though Kubrick was long-known as the master of torturously long takes and shoots, he outdid himself with Eyes Wide Shut , and at 400 days of principal photography the film holds the Guinness World Record for longest film shoot ever. Dismissed by some critics in its time, Eyes Wide Shut is now seen as essential, challenging Kubrick. It was the director's favorite of his features.
Julio Peña FernĂĄndez and Clara Galle star in an earnestly steamy romantic drama about a student who has the hots for her neighbor. Is that a thin premise for 116 minutes of movie? Yes. Will Through My Window appease fans of Fifty Shades and its imitators? Sure.Â

The erotic drama is back with the release of âDeep Water,â the Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas-starring thriller that marks the long-awaited directorial return of Adrian Lyne. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker is a master of the erotic thriller, having directed some of the most acclaimed and/or profitable erotic dramas of all time with the likes of â9Âœ Weeks,â âFatal Attraction,â âIndecent Proposalâ and âUnfaithful.â Lyne was nominated for best director at the Oscars thanks to âFatal Attraction,â while âUnfaithfulâ earned Diane Lane an Oscar nomination for best actress.
With âDeep Waterâ now streaming, Variety is rounding up the other erotic dramas now available on Hulu, Prime Video, Netflix and more platforms. Many of the films listed below are some of the sexiest films ever made, while nearly all of them are guaranteed to provoke and shock the viewer with their frank depictions of sex and intimacy.
âDeep Water,â based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith, stars Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas as a married couple who are constantly testing each other psychologically. Huluâs official synopsis says the film âtakes us inside the marriage of picture-perfect Vic (Affleck) and Melinda (de Armas) Van Allen to discover the dangerous mind games they play and what happens to the people that get caught up in them.â The supporting cast includes Tracy Letts, Lil Rel Howery, Dash Mihok, Finn Wittrock, Jacob Elordi, Rachel Blanchard and Michael Braun.
