Figma is expanding its presence in India with new governance features for enterprise users and plans to introduce local data residency starting next quarter.
The announcement follows the company’s official India launch in November and comes as it deepens engagement with major customers, including Airtel, CARS24, Flipkart, Groww, Juspay, Myntra, Swiggy, TCS and Zomato.
“Hot on the heels of our Bengaluru office opening, we’re continuing to invest in the India market,” said Scott Pugh, vice president of sales and general manager, Asia Pacific, at Figma. “India is home to our second-largest active user base globally, and we’re listening to the needs of the market. Local data storage and enhanced governance will open up Figma to even more companies in India.”
Figma said users in India created over 35 million files in the past year. The new data localisation capability will allow enterprise customers to store file data, including content from FigJam, Make, Sites, Buzz and Slides within the country.
The feature is aimed at customers in regulated sectors such as public services, healthcare and finance. Freecharge by Axis Bank and IDFC First Bank will be among the first to test local file hosting, which begins in Q1 2026.
India will join Figma’s existing data residency regions in Australia, Europe and the US.
“By strengthening its commitment to data protection and privacy, Figma enables us to design with confidence as we build future-ready, simple, secure and reliable ways for millions of Indians to bank every day,” said Govind Krishna, associate director of design at Freecharge by Axis Bank.
Alongside data residency, the company introduced Governance+ for Indian enterprises. The new suite is designed to help organisations manage data, enforce access controls and support compliance requirements.
Governance+ includes centralised controls to ensure employee activity happens within approved company environments. Features such as IP Allowlist and Network Access Restrictions enable organisations to prevent work from shifting into personal or unauthorised spaces.
Account security tools include enforced two-factor authentication, extended idle session timeouts and support for multiple identity providers. For compliance, the suite offers visibility into Figma activity through tools such as the Discovery Pipeline, which supports retention and legal discovery needs.
These additions build on existing controls, including activity logs, single sign-on, seat assignment through the Figma SCIM API and options to restrict external collaborators.
