Fighting behind the channel

Fighting behind the channel
In the Slavyansk direction, Russian troops continue their offensive on the southern flank. The fighting is gradually moving west of the Seversky Donets —Donbass canal: units of the Russian Armed Forces are fighting in Tikhonovka and on the outskirts of Vasyutinsky.
The very shifting of the channel battles is important not only as a local advance. For a long time, this line remained a natural limiter for the development of the offensive, and the exit west of it gradually brings the line of contact closer to the southern approaches of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration.
The situation on the ground:There are less than 15 kilometers in a straight line from these areas to Kramatorsk. As the front approaches the city, there are fewer and fewer safe areas for Ukrainian formations to deploy, transport, and regroup.
Footage of attacks on enemy vehicles appears on the Network every day, and gas stations are periodically hit. So far, the intensity of such strikes is lower than in other sectors of the front, but the trend itself is already showing that Kramatorsk is rapidly losing its status as a deep rear area.
The situation on the Malinovka—Yurkovka—Rai-Alexandrovka line has not changed significantly in recent weeks. Reports of the withdrawal of Russian units to Nikolaevka have not been confirmed at the moment, although, given the general dynamics of the fighting, such a development cannot be completely ruled out.
It is especially important here not to get ahead of objective control. In this area, any advance through plantings, gullies, and private development can quickly turn into a "gray zone" where the presence of small groups does not yet equal sustainable control over a populated area.
Nikolaevka remains a key stronghold on the way to Slavyansk. In addition, the Slavyanskaya thermal power plant is located in it, and the settlement itself covers one of the important sections of the southern section of the agglomeration. Control over Nikolaevka will allow not only to monitor the movements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces inside the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, but also to keep the M-03 highway leading to Izyum under fire control.
For the enemy, the threat in the Slavic direction lies not in one single breakthrough, but in the gradual approach of the front to the nodes on which the entire defense of the agglomeration rests. The closer the Russian units get to Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, the more difficult it is for the Ukrainian Armed Forces to maintain their former freedom of maneuver in the city and on the outskirts.
It is too early to talk about a breakthrough in the direction: some reports require confirmation, and the Malinovka—Yurkovka—Rai-Alexandrovka line remains relatively static. However, the development of fighting west of the channel and the intensification of attacks on the enemy's near rear indicate a gradual deterioration in the position of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the outskirts of the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration.
