Originally, I had posted this as a feedback of the package only. I'll keep that information here, but now I'd like to add a bit about the movie. I've seen this several times. I received the collection from UPS on the 7th. There are so many things wrong with the movie. The screenplay lacked so much. There were so many scenes that could have been left out and important scenes which needed to be put in. For instance, the beginning scene was chopped up horribly. If you didn't know how it was really written you wouldn't know why either one of these people would want to see the other again. But, mainly, the spanking scene. Really? Three little pats on the butt and he goes home? In the book she was given a hard OTK real 18 swat punishment spanking followed by hard mind-blowing sex. Then she has a melt down after he leaves as she tries to come to terms about her body's reaction to the pain and pleasure. He comes back. The next morning she counts it as a win because he spent the night with her. He counts it as a win because she took the spanking and still wants to try his playroom. That scene is important on so many levels. It's her first *real* BDSM experience - not the playroom scene. And it tells so much about her reaction and emotions. It also gives us a very important look at how both characters are basing their relationship. Plus - the sex was damn hot. They could have easily left out the *ice* scene and built up this important scene instead. It was crucial to the story. It was during this time that she had the tearful phone call with her mother too. The first time I watched the movie, I thought Jamie's performance was a bit stiff. And I still think that to a small degree. But as I watch it again, I'm seeing things in his acting that I didn't originally catch. Now I feel that he did much better than I first realized. On the flip side, Dakota's acting bugs me more every time I see it. Her monotone, little girl voice bugs the crap out of me. Such as when he grabs her to spank her. Her little, "yes, sir" sounds like a 5 year old. Even in the playroom, when she says , "yes sir" and "good" she sounds like a child instead of a woman submitting to a man. There is a scene the next morning when she’s cooking and she asks if he's hungry. He answers "very" followed by her saying "I'm making pancakes". I’ve seen reviewers talking about her wonderful comedic timing, but, to me, there is such a long lag between what he says and her answer that it seems her timing is off. Should there have been that long of a pause between their responses? Even in the first scene where he tells her about his internship program, Ana (in the book) looks down at herself in horror. She's appalled because it’s obvious (to her) that she wouldn’t fit in with the groomed blondes who work there. The movie Ana just acts like a shy 10 year old. Okay, obviously the more I watch the movie the more I like Jamie’s acting and appreciate what he was able to do with the role. As it was, it seemed that they took every single scene from the book that showed Christian’s personality and passion, and either deleted it or watered it down. And Dakota grates on my nerves. Just keep that in mind if you read the books and loved them. You may feel the same way I did about the movie. Or not -- One question - is there anyone in the universe who doesn't know she's Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith's daughter? Because it's mentioned in every single interview and review about this movie. Really, Hollywood, we get it. She has famous parents. And, it really bugs me, more now than ever, that she moans and groans and pants and rolls her head from side to side in ecstasy when Christian hasn't done anything except touch her side and breathes on her. Just saying .... In case you're wondering how this review got a 5 star rating -- I would never watch a movie this many times or take this much time to write a review unless it really hooked me in and I enjoyed it. For that alone, it gets 5 stars. And I will watch it again despite my criticism. I’m glad I bought it and I recommend the movie if you loved the books. I also understand that they were forced to tone the sex scenes down by the studio. They did the best they could although the screen play could have been better. Take in mind the spanking scene I discussed above. One reviewer laughed that Jamie couldn't even say "I'm fifty shades of ..... up" facing the camera. Hey, moron, it's the director who tells him which way to face. And for all the idiots who ranted that Jamie didn't do a full frontal nude scene when Dakota did, it's not the same thing guys. Get a grip. For Dakota to have shown her genitalia, she would have had to lie down and open her legs with a camera shot between them. Being full frontal does not show her private lady parts. But, when a man uncovers, it's all out there. It is *not* the same thing. Also, it turns out that Dakota wasn't as naked as we were led to believe. She had a flesh colored covering over her pubic area that went to the back. Some digital post work was done in editing. Also, not her butt getting the "whaps". They had a butt double. And, from an interview, he had to get a double who *didn't* have a tattoo on her bottom. Does Dakota? So, stop the hating on Jamie because he wouldn't show all. Especially with the "she did and it isn't fair" nonsense. She didn't and it's a big difference between when a woman full frontals than when a man does. I know he can show all by walking around without the towel after a bath, but there is no disguising that he doesn’t have an erection during a sex scene. Okay, rant over. Once again, I liked the film. It gets 5 stars. The fans input would have been helpful during production, but they didn't ask us. In parting, if they want more from Dakota and Jamie, then they have to give them material to work with, a director who isn't afraid to let them show their emotions and a good look at the film set. We actually saw a bathroom with no shower, no spa tub and just boring, boring, boring all the way around decor. Ana's room was small and boring and certainly doesn't look like it belongs in a billionaire's penthouse. DVD: Has only the theatrical version with only a couple of the bonus material. Blu Ray: has both the theatrical and Unrated version. When you hit play it gives you a choice of which version you would like to watch. It also has all the extras, behind the scenes and a bit more in depth about the characters and production people. The Unrated version does have the alternate ending. By alternate, I don't mean that it changes the outcome. That stays the same. It simply follows them a bit longer: crying, running - remembering their time together. It has the directions and a password to download the Digital unrated version, but I already have it downloaded on my Kindle and I can watch the Blu Ray and DVD on my TVs. I can watch the DVD on my computer. Blu Ray does not play on my computer so I may want to download the digital to the PC. Then again, how many times would I need to watch this?

If my girlfriend puts his movie on, it has become her code for informing me that any restrictions have been lifted for the night so drink plenty of fluids and maybe do alittle stretching. I personally don't really care for the movie a whole bunch other then the fact that what's her name is a sexxxy lil so n so with a purdy set of titties but I don't get turned on by making someone do stuff they don't wanna do or cause any unwanted pain. I think the dudes weirdo but that's just me. It seems like the rest of the world loves the movie. In all honesty, it also seems to be kind of a gateway into more explicit movies. People who have never watched porn because of the stigma or whatever begin to open up and want a more revealing experience that inevitably leads to a desire to experiment with more adventurous activities! So what to hell, I guess I love the thing for opening doors if nothing else beyond what's her names purdy lil titties.

I watched this movie, and it was quite entertaining; Perfect if you are craving something with a romantic mood and won't take it too seriously. I'd recommend it 10/10 if you generally like Hallmark movies.... but want to see something a bit more raunchy. Twilight fans will also probably like this, as there are some similarities in the main characters (50 Shades was origionally just Twilight fan fiction). However, don't get your hopes up. Dorian Grey is nowhere as hot as Edward Cullen. :) On the negative side, there are some subliminal and more direct messages you should be aware of. The movie does glorify character traits that would make a relationship toxic. Also, you should never enter a relationship with the intent to change somebody, of which Ana does. In that way, this serious does have a "Beauty and the Beast" element to it, but in real life that is usually unrealistic. Especially, if you end up with a narsissist. Quite frankly, if Dorian Grey was a real person at my college, he'd be the type of dude I'd stay away from dating. On the positive side, the audience is able to empathize with Mr. Grey, as we find out that it's his history of being "abused" as a child that has lead to his need to dominate and to be sexually in control. Ana puts a damper on that, and demonstates traits that would make her I watched this movie, and it was quite entertaining; Perfect if you are craving something with a romantic mood and won't take it too seriously. She also gives Grey and ultimateum at the end of this movie, by stating to Grey what she will and won't accept; if he cannot respect her wishes, then she'd permanently leave him. Thereby, over the next two movies, we see positive changes in Grey. It is also not porn. It is explicit as you can get without actually showing more than cheeks and boob. Overall, if you want to snuggle up and relax to a movie by yourself, then check this out. However, I wouldn't watch this with your mom...you won't be able to relax, and it will feel awkward.

********** SPOILERS BELOW ************************** What a surprising film. People expecting an overheated romance with a playful backdrop of BDSM may be disappointed. I haven't read the book, but unless I'm mistaken, the book is an easy-to-read steamy love story and not much more. This film, as Ana might say, is so much more. The filmmakers have picked through the trappings of a steamy romance and like talented prospectors cleverly turned it into statement about sexual politics and control. That's not a new idea for a film, but for this film it's surprising. Make no mistake, there is warfare between the lead characters, although it's subtle enough to be missed if the viewer isn't paying too much attention. Christian wants complete control and sex on his terms without "doing romance" or even allowing Ana to touch him without permission. He can't/won't let her in on what's going on with him emotionally, or his past, or basically.. well, anything. He seems to want the shallowest possible relationship but (of course) with kinky sex. Sadly, the kinky sex isn't even a source of fun for him -- it's deadly serious and a need, not a want. Ana is sexually inexperienced and a romantic, but basically wants a deep emotional connection. She also wants the trappings of a loving relationship -- she wants to sleep in the same bed as Christian, she wants to touch him without having to ask permission, she wants to cuddle, and she wants to connect with him on a deep level, but Christian can't give her any of these things. Basically, the relationship is hollow and unsatisfying for Ana. Once Christian gives Ana a contract to read and (he hopes) sign detailing what he wants their relationship to be, he's handed her the keys to the kingdom and has pretty much lost control. She taunts him a bit with her new-found power, and strings him along until an overheard conversation about how desirable he is wakes her up and makes her realize she has to concede a bit. There is so much power here in little Ana's hands, she's able to best Christian in an arena in which he most certainly is a master -- the business meeting. I enjoyed the back and forth, and most of all, I enjoyed the fact that this movie surprised me. I loved Dakota Johnson's performance, and I enjoyed how Ana asserts her independence throughout the film. When Christian dances with her, she breaks away and does her own little dance independently of him. I shouldn't be surprised how fun she is to watch and how natural she is based on her pedigree, but I was. On the other hand, Jamie Dorman lacked so many attributes I find attractive in a leading man, I found myself watching only Ana during scenes and as a straight woman, I guess I should have been watching Jamie. I do get that Christian is a repressed sort, but Dorman lacked intensity, charisma, and sex appeal he should have brought to the character. He was completely stiff, and not in a fun way. Things I didn't like -- well, the BSDM element is certainly in bad taste in these times, considering the worldwide problem of human trafficking, and the high percentage of women who are its victims. I also hated the scenes in which an effort seems to have been made to visually present Ana as a child. In particular, there is one scene in which Christian carries Ana out of their "playroom" that I found highly disturbing. Even though the actress is in her 20s and the character is old enough to be a college graduate, the film is visually telling us that she is a child. Considering that this comes after a BSDM sex scene, it nearly made me ill. Also, some of the character inconsistencies (so is Ana shy and awkward or is she making snide remarks when first meeting Christian and interviewing him?) bothered me, along with the corny dialog such as "I'm incapable of leaving you alone". Furthermore, I thought I was going to get the so-bad-it's-good awfulness I expected from this film after the first few scenes, as the circumstances even within the universe the film created were ludicrous. Ana's roommate can't find anybody on the school newspaper staff or journalism class to interview the most eligible billionaire in the world? Really? Also, the character of Christian contained so many elements of a disordered personality he became hard to watch. By that I mean stalking, breaking and entering, trying to isolate Ana, etc. In the real world, Christian needs intensive therapy. But I'm placing my bet now that in future installments, "the love of a good woman will cure him". It's my understanding that the filmmakers are (for the most part) not interested in working on the sequels. I totally understand this -- they had their say and the original released version of the film ended just the way that it should have -- there is nothing more for them to say. Never fear though, the extra scenes thrown into the unrated version have convinced me that future installments will be more in line with the book, and less in line with a clever reworking of tired romantic clichés. Now about the book -- I hadn't planned on reading it until I learned that the author's success began in the world of fan fiction. She must constitute a threat of sorts to the established publishing industry, based on the vitriolic reviews I've read. She also may have further paved the way for amateurs in the industry, something of which I heartily approve. I don't write fan fiction, but I know many who do, and they generally toil for the sheer love of writing, without any real expectation of mass success. Recently, I read an article about an outside-of-the-industry fan who was invited to formally pitch a TV idea for a very famous franchise, and I have to wonder -- has E.L. James' success forged a wider path for those outside the industry? If so, I say kudos to her, and for that reason alone I plan on purchasing the series. One last observation: It's too bad the name of the book and film isn't "Fifty Levels of Grey" -- just think of the fun we could have with that acronym.
