Dulcinea Circelli : "Often, art begins with a question, or series of questions an artist wishes to explore. With "100 Fetishes," I ask to what extent has the global and historical patriarchal control over female bodies given rise to the fetishization of separate body parts and everyday actions?
The clips in this film are intentionally short, mirroring the way fetish compartmentalizes the female body with an obsessive, myopic focus. The vignettes often showcase only chopped off pieces of my body, boxed in by the camera's focus: my feet, my hands, my legs, my mouth...
Worldwide, the female body is controlled by sanctions on external presentation. Whether the sanctions include only coverage of breasts or full body burkkas, the severity of control varies from country to country by a matter of degree, but nonetheless is ever present.
So, again, I ask, what is the consequence that results from sanctions imposed on female bodies by the global patriarchy?
Fetishes involving that which may be exposed and seen.
The clips in "100 Fetishes" are inspired by real fetish clips downloaded from adult websites worldwide. Every scene in "100 Fetishes" is considered an adult fantasy by the global fetish market. Many will look decidedly unsexy to the "vanilla" eye.
How does it feel to know as a woman that every part of you, from the roots of your hair to the toenails on your feet (as well as many everyday actions) provide titillation for somebody?
How does it feel to know that every part of your wife, sister, daughter, friend, or mother is looked at by someone with a fetish when they enter public spaces?
