Fernández vs Kasatkina. WTA Eastbourne Match Analysis and Prediction

Leylah Fernandez

Fernandez showed good form on grass last week in Birmingham, reaching the quarterfinals. In Eastbourne, the Canadian has built on that success, making it to the final. Leylah faced her toughest challenges early on against Krejcikova (6-2, 3-6, 6-2) and in the semifinal against Keys (6-3, 3-6, 6-3). In her other matches against Krueger and Dart, she had no problems, winning both with identical scores of 6-2, 6-1.

Daria Kasatkina

Kasatkina has reached the Eastbourne final for the second consecutive year. Last season, she was denied the title by Madison Keys, but this time her semifinal opponent, Leylah Fernandez, eliminated Keys. Like Fernandez, the Russian has played two three-set matches on her way to the final – against Yuan Yue (3-6, 6-4, 6-0) in the second round and Paolini in the semifinals (3-6, 7-5, 6-3). She won her matches against Xin Yu Wang (6-4, 6-2) and Raducanu (6-2, 6-2) in straight sets. Up next is Fernandez, whom Daria has defeated twice before on clay and hard courts.

Prediction

There's no doubt that Kasatkina will be highly motivated to win the trophy on her second attempt. While Fernandez should not be underestimated, Kasatkina's previous victories over the Canadian on clay and hard courts give her an edge. We believe Kasatkina's more stable baseline play will secure her the win on grass as well.

Prediction: Kasatkina to win
