Sonic walked down the street, happily whistling to himself.
This time will work for sure , he thought to himself as he frolickes.
For a while now, Sonic had been trying to get one of his best friends, (Y/n), a girlfriend. He had set him up on blind dates, with Mobians he knew, Mobians he barely knew, yet nothing seemed to work.
But this time around, Sonic had confidence in this date.
(Y/n) was at home (supposedly) preparing for his date and Sonic was on his way over there to make sure he was, well, preparing for the date. (Y/n) had figured that the whole "getting a girlfriend" thing was to keep Sonic distracted while Tails was gone on a mission, which he didn't necessarily mind. He wasn't ever busy; just usually reading or watching whatever, taking walks. You know, the usual.
It is currently thirty minutes before the date and (Y/n) was just chilling on his couch, laying down on his back, in sweats and a tee shirt, reading a book he's read for the thousandth time when Sonic knocks on the door.
"It's open." He called out, not even bothering to pretend like he was getting ready.
"So how's the getting ready going?" Sonic asked, pretending like he doesn't see his friend reading on the couch.
Sonic closed the door. "Ha ha, very funny. Now seriously start getting ready."
(Y/n) put his book down, but didn't close it. "But why? I have plenty of time. Aren't you suppose to be the chill, laid-back type of friend?"
Sonic tried to come up with an argument, but couldn't. He was supposed to be the chill, laid-back type of friend...
"Come relax with me, Sonic," he picked his book back up. "It'll be fun."
Sonic didn't put up much resistance to this. He as he walked over to the couch, (Y/n) lifted up his legs to make room for Sonic and put them on top of his lap when Sonic sat down.
Five minutes turned into ten; ten into twenty. Sonic was asleep and the other one fully invested into his book until he noticed the time of 5:50.
He carefully got off the couch and walked into his room, throwing on a button-up short sleeve shirt, decent shorts, and shoes, remembering that the date, this time, took place at Emerald Coast. He went into the bathroom, checked his hair (it looked fine), and he was successfully ready.
When he rushed back into the living room. Sonic was still asleep. He smiled and lightly ruffled his quills before he headed out the door.
After two hours of conversation, it's safe to say that the couple... wasn't going to be one.
This particular female didn't really seem interested in him, or the date, really. It was a blind date, after all.
The girl wasn't mean or anything. At least she didn't seem so. But, the date ended with the empty promises of texting one another later.
The most joy that (Y/n) probably got out of that night was is when he opened the door to his home and found Sonic still on his couch, sleeping.
This got a little chuckle out of him. He decided to let him sleep for the time being, not being surprised at all if he wakes up with a crook in his neck.
He went to his room to change into some pajamas, fairly tired from the social interaction he was forced into.
You see, (Y/n) use to be an introvert, hence his pastime activities. But sense all of the dates Sonic set him up on, he's less socially awkward in situations, such as not having to mentally prepare for five minutes when ordering at a restaurant, not searching on his phone for where a certain aisle in a store is oppose to asking someone, phone calls, etc.. However, he has taciturn blood in him, thus deeming him an ambrivert.
(Y/n) mentally debated with himself as to whether he'd wake Sonic up so he could avoid that oh-so very delightful crook he'd have in his neck or just keep him there. Wake up, or sleep. Wake up, or sleep. Wake up... or sleep. Wake-
"Sonic," he lightly shook his shoulder, trying to disturb him only momentarily as serenely as possible. "Sonic, wake up."
"Five more minutes..." he turned away from his now smiling-trying to hold in laughter friend.
"You're going to make your neck all achy and stiff when you wake up if you don't. And I know you remember last time."
It took Sonic a moment, but he dawdlingly dragged himself off of (Y/n)'s couch and shuffled through the house and onto (Y/n)'s bed.
All the (A/t) could do was shake his head while lightly laughing and crawled underneath the covers with him.
He would've said goodnight to Sonic, but he was already out like a light.
(Y/n) smiled, falling asleep shortly after.
When (Y/n) woke up in the middle of the night, he found a blue hedgehog clinging to his shirt and face buried into his neck, putting off lots of body heat, which wasn't a bad thing.
For a second, the poor (awake) kiddo thought that a burglar broke into his home and randomly started cuddling with him. Instead, it was Sonic that had gone to his house earlier, fell asleep and never really woke up, and in the middle of the night, still hasn't woken up.
Oh, wait, he is. (Y/n) glanced at him, seeing his chest still rise in fall according to his breathing pattern.
After shuffling for a few more seconds, he settled back down, and slept.
On the other hand, Sonic woke up three hours later from (Y/n) waking up.
His face was buried in something warm and cozy and he lightly gripped something. He carefully lifted his head to see what he had passed out on. When he found out it was (Y/n), he couldn't say that he was too surprised, since they've known each other for forever and situations like this one happened more often than one would think.
But the thing that caught Sonic offguard was this... new feeling he got while cuddling with him. It felt tingly and not horrible, but odd. Very odd. This was surprising.
Sonic decided not to bother his friend and tried to go back to sleep, or at least enjoy the warmth some more.
Just as Sonic started dozing off again, (Y/n) was waking up. Seeing as Sonic was kind of on top of (Y/n), not waking up the blue blur would be nearly impossible, if (Y/n) tried (which he did).
"Morning sleeping beauty," (Y/n) laugh-greeting and looked at the clock, "How was your 15-hour nap?"
Sonic lightly grumbled, putting his chin on (Y/n)'s chest. "I'm still tired."
He shrugged and attempted to get up, but couldn't, which confused both of them. Until they both realized that (Y/n) had his arm wrapped around his waist quite firmly.
He quickly let go and scooted away from his hedgehog friend. "Sor- oof!" He fell off the bed. You know that feeling when the wind just gets knocked out of you from falling on your back from a sudden fall, even if it was just a foot or two? That's what (Y/n) felt. And when he hit the floor, he quietly gasped before groaning.
Shortly after his fall, he heard rumbling around on the bed and saw a head of cobalt quills poke from around the corner. "You okay there?"
(Y/n) sigh-responded. "Yep." Silence. "Sorry about the cuddling thing. It's kinda force of habit."
"It's chill." Sonic got off of the bed, helped (Y/n) up, and started walking toward the kitchen. "So, what's for breakfast?"
To Sonic's pleasure, they didn't end up having omelets, but cereal: the simple breakfast food. (Y/n) could cook, but he was sure that Sonic was probably pretty hungry and didn't want to wait, being the inpatient Mobian he is.
"So, how'd the date go?" Sonic asked, scarfing down his meal.
"Oh, you know, the usual. She didn't really seem interested," (Y/n) answered. "So... when's my next date?"
"I... think I'll give you a break for a little while on dates."
Sonic didn't know. It was just the thought of (Y/n) being with someone else at the moment kinda makes him... angry?
Where did that suddenly come from?
Instead of making up some lame excuse as to why, he just told the truth and shrugged his shoulders. "Dunno."
So (Y/n) being the observer he is just decided to leave Sonic be and contiue to eat his cereal in comfortable, momentary silence.
"I know you're not busy," Sonic started. "So... what do you wanna do today?"
"Wow. Just... just wow." (Y/n) acted as if he was hurt by the assumption. "Did... did you just assume that I have no plans to me? Are you calling me lame?"
Sonic knew he was faking... kinda. But just to be sure, "No, I think you're pretty cool, actually, but you don't ever really do anything outside your house unless I force you out of it. But asking what you wanted to do was probably a mistake, seeing as you'll answer with something like reading or binge-watching something, so never mind."
"... Acutally, I wouldn't mind wandering around the city today, just as long as you don't force me into doing anything too social, I'll be fine."
(Y/n) was having a decent time, relishing the moment.
Sonic on the other hand... he was a bit more tortured.
Why, you may ask. Remember the feelings he had from earlier? Well... they became more bothersome oppose to the benign affects from before.
The (A/t) did notice Sonic's ease with reticence this time around and decided to bring it up.
"Hey Sonic, what's up with the lack of conversation? Is... something wrong?"
"Hm? Oh, I'm fine. Just... deep in thought." Sonic was cursing himself for his integrity. He was always a bad liar.
"Okay," (Y/n) gave him a small smile and contiued to walk with Sonic. Sonic knew that he didn't buy it, but decided to leave him alone at it anyway.
As afternoon turned into evening, evening into early night, the crowd just became more sparse and the natural lighting of Station Square was starting to go away.
It wasn't until it was completely dark out and the artificial, yet beautiful lights that embellished the city lit up that Sonic finally spoke out something. (It's a good thing they were sitting down)
The current louder of the two was talking about how his date went when Sonic interrupted him.
"Hey (Y/n)," he said, still somewhat averting his eyes.
He hesitated for a moment, trying to find the right words. "Have you ever been... confused about feelings toward someone?"
(Y/n) nodded, understanding where he was coming from.
Sonic was slow when he spoke, still trying to piece together what to say. "Okay. I... I'm confused about you . I've had these out of the norm emotions toward you and I have no idea what they mean."
"I dunno, I don't think I totally hated it when you had your arm wrapped around me this morning... or really even disliked it at all. And I don't wanna set you up on a date, but that's still a mystery as to why. I've also just felt kinda nervous, but more happy than normal around you...?" Sonic turned to look at his friend. "Please don't think I'm werid."
(Y/n) held the gaze a little while longer before grinning an looking away.
His taciturn blood has helped him once more.
You see, he reads. A lot. Over the years, he's ventured from fiction reading. He had a phase where he was fascinated with Mobian intelligence and read a couple books about romance/ body language and stuff. The one thing he's found useful from said obsession is when someone has a crush, he could tell, in which this unintentional confession was obvious.
"What? Are you trying to hold back a laugh or something?" Sonic for very defensive very quickly. "Because if you are-"
"Sonic, calm down. But if I didn't know any better, I'd say you have a crush on me."
The hedgehog was baffled by the estimate; it sounded pretty accurate, now that he thinks about it. But, instead of facing the truth, he'd (try) and hide his feelings.
Before he could deny the obvious, (Y/n) kissed him. And unsurprisingly, Sonic didn't take long to kiss back. The kiss was short and simple and just long enough to not be classified as a tease, but it still wasn't long enough.
When (Y/n) who pulled away, it was one of the few times in his life time that he saw Sonic blushing.
"Okay... so maybe I do have a crush on you..."
(Y/n) laughed "Just ask me on a date already so I can say yes."
They laughed off the fact that Sonic didn't even get to finish his sentence and probably didn't even need to ask, but still did.
The remainder of the night was spent talking about nonsense that didn't matter, just like old times, but with the new element of romance added.
