Orange females are r-strategists as they tend to have smaller offspring and more of them, a “quantity over quality” approach. Yellow females are K-strategists as they produce large eggs and are favored at high density, a “quality over quantity” strategy. Each strategy has its advantage depending on the density of the population at that time, which cycles between low and high density every other year. Yellow females do well in high-density years, as their offspring are larger and thus better able to outcompete the orange females smaller offspring. On the flip side, orange females are more successful in low-density years as they are able to have more offspring that can quickly take over the landscape. You can see in the photos below examples of eggs from yellow (left, smaller) and orange (right, larger) females’ eggs. Synopsis of female behavior. The outcome of male and female encounters depends on the receptivity cycle of the female. If the female is receptive, copulation is possible . However, before or after the critical 3-4 day window of receptivity the female can reject a courting male. Before receptivity, the female rejects the male with a tail flick (this is because the male tries to grab the females tail in his mouth prior to copulation — see the full copulation movie). After receptivity, the female rejects the male with a vigorous and rapid series of head bobs, along with a humped posture. She will also act aggressively towards the male. Of course, males need not be harrassing the female to incur female aggression. Males often do dumb things (see the movie on Aggression ).

I have been hearing rumblings from morphers and others about their pictures being removed by the moderators. I, too, have begun to be affected by this. It would seem that, after more than a year, DeviantArt's "proactive deviation moderation" effort is beginning to affect our community. I suspect this will continue and rapidly increase in the coming weeks and months, and will depend mainly on the ability of the moderators to keep up with the A.I. software as it flags more and more Deviations. Anyone who is posting photographs that do not belong to them, altered or unaltered, featuring models they do not have permission to post photographs of, is in violation of DeviantArt's policies. This, of course, includes all morphers. This journal entry is intended as a clearinghouse for information about what is going on with DeviantArt's moderation efforts. Hello, friends, and welcome to the FemaleMuscleMorphs Contest Winners HALL OF FAME . We cannot offer any actual prizes to our contest winners, but we can at least honor them by putting their pictures in a special folder near the very top of our gallery. And now, to celebrate our 5th anniversary and the incredible milestone of reaching our 25th contest, we are adding this journal entry to the "Hall of Fame" contest folder.
As it so happens, sometimes morphers take their leave of DeviantArt and actually delete their accounts. When that occurs, all their Deviations vanish into the ether, including their prize-winning images! Unfortunately, I was not in the habit of backing up all of these images for most of the last five years. However, due to the wizardry of modern search engines, I have been able to track down all but one of the pictures that disappeared, and I am posting them here in the interests of historical accuracy. Therefore, this journal entry also serves as an addendum to what still remains in the "Hall of Fame" gallery folder. (If anyone happens to have a copy of the "Deleted Image" seen below on their hard drive, from our July 2017 contest, please contact me so I can add it here!)
