How do you know which women's hair toppers are the best? Learn how to spot the best toppers and see our top 7 topper picks.
Even though eyebrows have gained some (much deserved) acclaim in recent years, they are often overlooked and under-appreciated. Of course, it isn't hard to see why; they aren't sparkly and beautiful like eyes or sweet and sexy like lips. Instead, eyebrows are the silent workhorse of the face. They have a big job. Eyebrows frame the facial features, creating balance, so when they change or fall out completely, the balance of the face is thrown off -- and the effect can be dramatic.
In this guide, we will cover eyebrow shapes and help you determine which eyebrow shape is best for your unique face shape. Here are the basic eyebrow shapes that we will explore in greater detail.
Besides tweezing, there are a number of ways to modify or enhance the shape of existing eyebrows, or replace them if you have completely lost your eyebrows. Before we get into the details of each eyebrow shape, it's important to keep in mind your options for replacing or enhancing your eyebrows. Here they are:
From brow sticks to powders, there are many different ways to draw on your eyebrows. You can use a stencil to define the shape of the brow, or you can draw it freehand. For a quick tutorial on how to draw eyebrows, click here . You can also use eyebrow makeup to "customize" temporary tattoos and realistic eyebrow wigs .
Pros: Cost effective; You can create completely customized eyebrows.
Cons: Can be time consuming and effort intensive; Requires more skill and practice than other options.
Temporary eyebrow tattoos are made from vegetable dye that transfers to the skin with water. They last on the face for 2-3 days.
Pros: Cost effective and realistic. They come in a variety of shapes.
Cons: Because the eyebrow tattoos are printed in batches using natural dye, tattoo colors can vary from sheet to sheet.
Eyebrow wigs are handmade of human hair attached to a flexible gel strip. They should be replaced every three months.
Pros: Because these brows are made from real hair, they are the most realistic option. Available in three unique shapes.
Cons: These brows are the most expensive option.
Before we start talking about which eyebrow shapes are flattering, we need to know the technical terms associated with eyebrows -- otherwise this guide might get a little confusing. When defining the shape of an eyebrow, there are 5 factors to consider:
The arch height refers to how “lifted” the arch shape is from the bottom of the eyebrow.
The arch shape refers to the pointedness of the peak of the arch.
There are three basic levels of eyebrow thickness:
Definition refers to how “filled in” or voluminous the eyebrow is.
Length refers to how far the brow extends.
Choosing flattering eyebrows is all about selecting a brow that will compliment and balance out your unique face shape.
Since you already have the most coveted face shape, a soft brow with a shallow arch is most flattering; it will maintain the natural balance of your face.
A diamond shaped face is balanced, but angular; to soften angles, choose a soft brow with a curved or soft arch.
If you have a round face, you want to make you face look longer and less circular; eyebrows with a medium to high arch height and a hard or soft angled arch shape will help to lengthen your face. Rounded eyebrows will be the least flattering option on those with round faces.
Eyebrow Tattoo Shape: #1 6 , # 21 , # 22
Full and thick eyebrows with a soft or hard angled arch will draw attention from the jaw to the eyes, softening the angles of your face. A soft angled arch can help to soften the jawline, but a hard angled arch with a low arch height will also be flattering. A rounded arch will look unnatural and emphasize the jawline, so it is not ideal.
Tattoo Shape: # 20 , # 22 Eyebrow Wig Shape: # 17 Stencil Shape : Arch
Because of your delicate facial structure, you need a delicate brow; full, heavily structured or highly arched eyebrows will appear overwhelming on your face and draw too much attention to the forehead. Soft brows with a low to medium arch height and a curved or soft arch shape will be the most flattering on you.
Tattoo Shape: # 17 , # 18 Eyebrow Wig Shape: # 15 , # 17 Stencil Shape : Arch, round
If you have a pear shaped face, your eyebrows should have a medium arch height and extended tails to create width at the forehead.
Tattoo Shapes: # 17 , # 21 , # 22 Eyebrow Wig Shape: # 17 Stencil Shape : Arch
To balance out the length of the face, eyebrows should have extended tails to create width. A shallow arch height will also help to shorten the face.

Eyebrows are one of the most important – but also the most underappreciated – features on our face. They just don’t get the credit they deserve for their ability to truly transform our face .
When our eyebrows look good , we usually don’t notice them. What we do notice is that the whole face looks lifted. But if the brows are bad , we absolutely will notice them.
Brows that are too bushy can look like an angry line across a face. Unkempt ones can give the impression of a dirty face. Very thin, drawn-on brows can create a very hard and severe look and brows that are too thin almost seem to disappear and leave the eyes without the proper framing.
As we age, our brows naturally thin. As years of tweezing or waxing accumulate, the hair follicles become weaker and the hairs grow back more slowly, if at all. Even in the best situations, brow hairs can take as long as six weeks to grow – a lot longer than the hair on our head.
The good news is that we don’t have to tweeze as often. But here are a couple of tips when we do need to tweeze.
Tweeze just a few hairs regularly rather than go many days without tweezing. A magnifying makeup mirror is a must!

Tweeze after taking a shower as the warmth and vapor soften the skin and relax the pores so hair can be tweezed out more easily. Another option is to press a warm washcloth directly on your brows before tweezing.
If your skin is sensitive, consider applying Anbesol to the brows about five minutes before tweezing. It’s a topical toothache anesthetic which will numb the skin. After you finish tweezing, just rinse off the Anbesol.
For easier and less painful manipulation, tweeze the brow hairs in the direction of hair growth and alternate between brows.
In addition to tweezers, there are three other products we need for our brow care: small scissors, an angled brush, and a spoolie.
As we get older, those “rogue” hairs that quickly grow quite long also need some attention, so a small scissors is a helpful tool. It’s best to brush the brows up first and then just trim a tiny bit so you don’t trim too much. An angled brush is perfect for applying powders and pomades.
And a spoolie helps us brush the brow hairs up and into their natural position. After applying a brow product, run the spoolie through the brows to pick up any excess product.

If you’re unsure how to shape your brows, you might want to try a stencil kit. One that’s excellent is Senna Cosmetics’ Form-a-Brow Kit. If you can color in a picture in a coloring book, you can have wow brows.
Choose the stencil that is closest to your real brow shape and line it up on the brow. Using a brow powder that best matches your brow hair and then color inside the stencil. When you remove the stencil, you can tweeze away the hairs that aren’t colored.
You may have heard that you shouldn’t tweeze any hair from above the brow, but that’s a myth. If you have hairs above that are ruining your perfect shape, by all means go right ahead and tweeze them.
A new way to shape and trim your eyebrows is to use a razor. It’s not a new technique, but was previously exclusively used
