Farming is a tough job and in the pre-machinery days, farmers would manually do all tasks – right from plowing the field to harvesting the crop. However, fortunately, those days are long gone and farm equipment has made life relatively easier for farmers. Although these pieces of machinery are not cheap, they certainly benefit those who can afford it.

Here is a quick look at the different types of farm equipment available to farmers:

Tractor – Every farmer needs a tractor as it can perform several tasks. There are different sizes, capacities, styles available to suit the needs of different types of farms. You can also attach tools or other equipment to tractors and customize them according to your needs.

Plow – The most tedious part of farming is plowing the land. Plowing allows the farmer to mix the soil and bring the nutrients up to the surface, making it ready for farming. There are various types of plows available today which should be selected depending on the size of your farm and the type of soil.

Harrow – Sometimes you need to till deeper in order to get the right nutrients and make the soil ready for plants. This is where a harrow can help. You can attach it to a tractor and break down the soil easily and quickly. There are various types of harrow available like a hydraulic harrow, disc harrow, etc.

Fertilizer Spreader – When you want to spread manure or fertilizer on your farm, a Fertilizer Spreader is an ideal equipment. You can attach it to your tractor and spread the fertilizer evenly over your field. You can get spreaders for dry and liquid manure. The most common type of spreader used is a Broadcaster.

Seeder – Once your field is tilled and fertilized, it’s time to spread the seeds. Seeders can help you evenly distribute seeds across your field. They come in various shapes and sizes. Harvester – This is the costliest and the most important equipment on a farm which cuts down a great deal of physical labor. A harvester usually performs three functions:

1.      Harvesting or cutting

2.      Threshing or separating the grain from the husk

3.      Winnowing or separating the light chaff

It has different implements which are useful for different types of crops.

Baler – Balers collect the hay and straw remaining in your field, and compress and bind them into square or cylindrical bales. You can select balers based on the size of your farm.
