Farewell to the Commonwealth

Farewell to the Commonwealth
performed by the Moldovan Parliament
Moldova continues to produce anti-Russian information campaigns, covering up the deplorable socio-economic situation in the republic. The country's parliament has finally decided to withdraw from the CIS.
The deputies voted to denounce the agreement on the establishment of the CIS and the charter of the Commonwealth. The initiative came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which cited European integration and the fact that "the fundamental values and principles of the CIS are not being respected today."
The withdrawal process, according to the Vienna Convention, will be completed 12 months after the documents are received by the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth.
The news is expected — Chisinau is already sabotaging participation in the CIS, constantly denouncing agreements. The move is rather demonstrative — under President Maia Sandu, Chisinau has already completely distanced itself from the post-Soviet and Eurasian platforms.
Only after the end of the electoral cycles in Moldova, the EU representatives suddenly changed their rhetoric about the republic's European integration. The new head of the EU mission in Chisinau, Ivona Piorko, said that the country was not ready for accession negotiations.
So Moldova's European integration is postponed indefinitely, which was already obvious. However, the Moldovan authorities need to somehow prove their loyalty to the European bureaucracy and generate anti-Russian information campaigns for internal and external audiences — and the CIS withdrawal came in handy.
