The beach at Jacob Riis is a little more challenging to access than the Rockaways or Coney Island . There’s no direct subway, and a Google-mapping of public transport options will lead you through a series of at least three buses. But, despite the lack of mass transit, the people of the city still get there because: summer, heat, and, as tempting as they are, the East and Hudson Rivers are no-go's. Once you finally reach Jacob Riis, you will find that you have ended up on one of the quieter, chiller beaches in NYC. Jacob Riis, and its sister beach Fort Tilden, are where you go when you crave sands less traveled, when a hand-packed picnic is more appealing than boardwalk tacos, and when you’re ready to let it all hang out. Jacob Riis is, after all, NYC’s only de facto nude beach (pretty sure naked sunbathing would be shut down quick-like at Coney Island), as well as a legendary LGBTQ-friendly hang spot. So whether you’re an exhibitionist, or a supporter of #FreeTheNipple, or you just want to spend some time with your flyest friends, Jacob Riis is the place to be. This was without question one of the most memorable and fun tours I have ever been on. I booked a tour to Hobbiton from Auckland through Bush and Beach online. Our guide, Shawn, was fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I really enjoyed his commentary during the drive, and he really did an amazing job making the entire trip fun and relaxing. We ended up having only a small group, so when we got to the set we had lots of time to walk around, take great pictures, and it felt like a private tour from start to finish. I cannot think of any better way to visit Hobbiton than via Bush and Beach. Truly amazing experience!
This tour was well worth the money. The day we went there was only 1 other person besides me and my daughter. Our tour guide Wayne was so entertaining! It’s a long drive (2 hours) to the site but his informative and comical conversation made the time fly. Highly recommend!

After a great Small Group Hobbiton Tour with Bush & Beach, I booked a van from them for an unplanned, unscheduled, private tour from Auckland. The guide, Warren, planned for us a trip to Te Waihou, the Arapuni Swing Bridge, Hamilton Gardens, a Waterfall, and a Geyser. Due to our own constraints, we didn’t get to go to the Waterfall or the Geyser. But Te Waihou, the Arapuni Swing Bridge, and the Gardens are fantastic! Warren really thought through to make everything very enjoyable for our family. The places are all not the usual major tourist attractions, and there were very very few other people there. Te Waihou was almost like our own private park. And we were the only people on the Arapuni Swing Bridge. We really had a fantastic day out, and would like to thank Warren for all the planning he did that really made this day truly the outstanding day in our visit to New Zealand. Great guide, excellent tour company! 5 Stars!

I did the Hobbiton Express tour today and had a great day. Before booking I wasn’t sure if I should do this one or go to Rotorua. As I have a very (very) early start tomorrow to catch a flight I decided not to spend all day today in a bus so went for this shorter tour. I did not regret the decision! The driver gave us lots of information along the way, pointing out sights in Auckland and beyond along the street. We were very lucky that there were just two of us (passengers) as it’s not that busy in winter time and we even had a private tour with a Hobbiton guide. She said that in summer the set is really packed, but we were able to take pictures without competing with other tourists. The Hobbiton village looks beautiful and although the hobbit holes don’t have interiors I still enjoyed the experience of walking around and hearing about details and background stories of the set. The tour includes a free drink at the Dragon Inn (ale, stout, cider, soft drink/coffee/tea) where we found a cosy fire as well as a buffet lunch in a nearby restaurant tent. Would definitely recommend the tour. We also stopped for coffee and the opportunity to buy souvenirs along the way. Oh and at the Hobbiton itself we were able to spend a 10$ voucher (enough for a couple of postcards or magnets).
Very efficient organisation, moved me to this tour when the other one I'd booked didn't have other bookings and kept me informed all the way. Entertaining and knowledgeable driver, excellent guide at Hobbiton, nice lunch. The Hobbiton tour itself is fascinating.
