Then the whale went out (затем кит стал уплывать: «удаляться прочь»), turned over once on the broad of his back (перевернулся один раз на свою широкую спину: «на широкую часть своей спины»), and showed the spot for a moment only (и показал пятно только на одно мгновение). He had but the one chance (у него был только один шанс; chance — случай, случайность; шанс, вероятность, возможность), and a short one at that (и кратковременный при этом; short — короткий; краткий, недолгий); but he took it (но он использовал его; to take — брать; to take one’s chance — воспользоваться случаем), and hit the spot (и поразил пятно; to hit — ударять; попадать /в цель/, поражать, ранить), and the whale, mad with pain (и кит, обезумев от боли; mad — сумасшедший, безумный), made the sea all around red with blood (окрасил все море вокруг своей кровью: «сделал все море вокруг красным от крови»), and died (и умер).

That minute Trembling was able to speak (в ту самую минуту Трепещущая смогла: «была способна» заговорить), and went home with her husband (и пошла домой со своим мужем), who sent word to her father (который отправил сообщение ее отцу /о том/; to send /sent/; word — слово; вести, известие, сообщение) what the eldest sister had done (что сделала ее старшая сестра; to do /did, done/). The father came (отец приехал), and told him any death he chose to give her (и велел ему любой смертью, какую /только/ он выберет для нее: «чтобы дать ей») to give it (ее и казнить: «дать ее»).

The prince and she sent the cowboy to school (она с принцем: «принц и она» отправили пастушка в школу; to send /sent/), and trained him up as one of their own children (и воспитали его как одного из своих собственных детей; to train — обучать; воспитывать, учить, приучать /к чему-л./), and said (и сказали), "If the little girl that is born to us now lives (если девочка, которая родилась у нас сейчас, будет жить; to bear /bore, born/ — носить, переносить, перевозить; рождать, производить на свет), no other man in the world will get her but him (никто другой на свете: «никакой другой мужчина в мире» не получит ее, кроме него)."

In time Trembling had a second child, a daughter. The prince and she sent the cowboy to school, and trained him up as one of their own children, and said, "If the little girl that is born to us now lives, no other man in the world will get her but him."

The cowboy and the prince's daughter lived on (пастушок и дочь принца жили-поживали: «продолжали жить») till they were married (пока не поженились). The mother said to her husband (/ее/ мать сказала своему мужу), "You could not have saved me from the whale (ты бы не смог спасти меня от кита) but for the little cowboy (если бы не маленький пастух); on that account (по этой причине; account — счет; причина, основание) I don't grudge him my daughter (мне не жаль ему моей дочери; to grudge — выражать недовольство; неохотно давать, жалеть)."

The cowboy and the prince's daughter lived on till they were married. The mother said to her husband, "You could not have saved me from the whale but for the little cowboy; on that account I don't grudge him my daughter."

The son of the king of Omanya and Trembling had fourteen children (у сына короля Омании и Трепещущей было четырнадцать детей), and they lived happily (и они жили счастливо) till the two died of old age (пока оба не умерли от старости: «пока эти двое /не/ умерли от старого возраста»).
