Facebook Slideshow Videos: Create Quick Facebook Videos in 2021
Facebook Slideshow is back with a twist! If you're wondering where the Facebook Slideshow video options went – you're in the right place. Stick with me, because in this completely updated post, I share how you can create the Facebook Slideshow posts we all love – with an easy workaround.
I also share with you some quick and easy alternatives to the Facebook Slideshow tool – on Instagram and Facebook, so that you have many creative options for creating carousel and slideshow posts.
BY DONNA MORITZ | UPDATED 29 JANUARY, 2021
I'm excited to say that Facebook Slideshow is still possible! We thought it had gone away but you're still able to create them. With one quick workaround. But first…
I can't explain what a relief it is to find this workaround. I've been getting asked by many of you about the Facebook Slideshow feature for the past year or two. At first it went away for some people but not all. So it was hard to field questions as I was still seeing it as an option on my Facebook Page (as were many of my readers)
Then the inevitable happened. Facebook Slideshow went away totally from our newsfeed options. Poof!
This was super frustrating as I want you to have up-to-date information but many were coming to this post looking for “facebook slideshow” and “how to make a video on Facebook” so I just accepted it was gone and added in some alternative options to this post (which I have still kept at the bottom of the page).
Video is huge, there is no doubt. So even if Facebook took away Facebook Slideshow, I wanted to give you options when you arrived at this article. And I was sure that Facebook would come up with an alternative, eventually.
So l'm glad we've found a way to still do quick Slideshow videos. I owe the discovery of this hack to one of my Facebook Group members, Mboso Sampson (Facebook Ads consultant), who posted a link to the steps in our group. Thanks Mboso!
Add this trick to your toolkit for creating video on Facebook. With all the tools and apps these days, we have a lot of choice for creating video… even if the idea of video freaks you out. Facebook Slideshow is just one SIMPLE way of creating videos from images. So let's take a look at how it works (the new way!).
Creating a Facebook Slideshow video is easy if you follow these steps (note they have changed). What's the key difference?
You can't create the slideshow from your Facebook Page.
Yep. Facebook didn't take away or delete the Slideshow feature. They just moved it to where they want it to be used – to create ads. But you can still use it without creating an ad.
Note: I can't guarantee this will work on all accounts as…. as you know, the Facebook team change features as often as they change their underwear! But I will try to keep a check on it. If you notice that this does not work for you please leave a comment below. Here's how it works:
From the start, the process is different. You can NOT create a Facebook Slideshow carousel video from your Facebook Page. You need to go to Ads Manager. Go to this link to get started.
Once you have opened Facebook Ads Manager, click the 9-dot icon in the top left corner:
Scroll down and choose Page Posts Option.
Then click “Create Post”. (It's highlighted in Blue at the time of writing this, so it's hard to miss). This process is very similar to creating a post on your newsfeed, so it should seem familiar!
Once you click the blue button, you will see something like this image below, prompting you to create your post. Be sure to check you have the correct Facebook Page chosen if you have more than one.
Then choose “Photo/Video” from the top menu.
Once you choose Photo/Video, you will see that it's not just the Facebook Slideshow you can create. Facebook gives you a bunch of great options, as follows. These may look familiar if you've ever created a Facebook Slideshow on your newsfeed:
You'll see a lot of old familiar options like:
And of course there is some early ad-set-up stuff at the bottom. But for now, all you have to focus on is clicking the button “Create Slideshow”.
Now the easy part starts (trust me, it really is easy… as easy as joining the dots).
Again, layout and steps may change from time to time (or Facebook may even take this away – gah!). I hate writing this, but you know… it's Facebook, and anything is possible. But let's stay positive and create our Facebook Slideshow (woot!).
Once you click Create Slideshow, you will be able to choose 3-10 photos to create a video. Just like we have always done on the newsfeed. You're going to add your images and set your preferences.
This part is fun. Before you add your photos, you need to make a few simple decisions about a few key video elements.
You can see them below – and don't worry, you can edit them again later. Just choose what you think works best for now. Firstly you will need to set up your selections in the Settings Tab, including:
Note that none of these functions have a lot of editing options. The idea here is to make it simple for you to create a Facebook Slideshow video to post on your Facebook Page. I have other tool options below if you want more editing options.
As you can see, you can choose from a few music options. Not extensive, but for many small businesses this is enough!
Also did you notice? You can also upload your own track but please (please) heed this warning: Make sure you have the licenced rights to use music in your video if you intend to upload music into your slideshow and then broadcast it publicly. This is really important so you are covered for copyright.
The Facebook music menu options give you the chance to check your recently uploaded tracks as well as choose music by genre (ie Energetic, Inspirational, Fun, Trustworthy, Modern).
Whichever way you go, it's super simple and designed to help you to get a video “up”. Facebook wants you to create video, so this process is STILL very dot-to-dot and easy to follow without instructions!
For this project, I jumped into Canva and create these images from a template, but most of the work had already been done for me because I was just switching out the images, text, and colours).
Note: Your size will be dictated (usually) by the images you want to use. The rest can be changed easily.
Now the fun part happens. You can start uploading your images (up to 10 of them)!
This is as simple as clicking on the “+” button and choosing “Upload Photo” from your computer or “Take Photo” if you are taking photos to add. Here are my 7 images, uploaded and in order ready to create the Slideshow:
As in the past when we used the Slideshow feature on our Facebook Pages, Facebook Ads Manager also suggests choice of images. You can choose images from your timeline, cover photos, your photos from your Facebook Page….but usually you will upload your own!
Simply upload the photos in the order you want them to appear in the Facebook Slideshow.
Check your settings for Size/aspect ration (in this case I went with square), Image duration (in this case i went with 4 seconds as I needed enough time for people to read each slide) and transition (I went with fade).
Once you have all your images uploaded, and your settings chosen, you can preview the video to see what your Slideshow will look like.
To watch the video preview you just click the play button, and you'll see how it will play when published!
Simply edit any image or element that you want before publishing.
Note: You can't edit it after you publish so double-check it's how you want it to render. If you need to delete and replace any slides, you will need to delete all the slides back to that point. If you need to do this, don't panic. It doesn't take long to upload them again.
When you've checked everything and you are sure you are ready to publish, just click the blue Create Slideshow button at the bottom of the window.
It will take a few seconds for your video to render (depending on how many images you have and the duration).
Now your post will be shared to your Facebook Page!
IMPORTANT: You won't see the video come up immediately in Facebook Ads Manager or your Facebook Page, so don't panic if you don't see it immediately. This process takes approximately 1 – 1.5 minutes.
Go and check that your video has published. Success! Here is the published video on my Facebook Page:
I recommend that you click on your finished video and click Edit Video to add a title as follows. This will help with organisation and listing in your “Video Section” on your Facebook Page, so people can find it easily when searching your videos.
Also add tags so that your videos can be found more easily in search on Facebook, as follows:
You're done! Awesome right? Now that you know where to find Facebook Slideshow features again, you can use it to your heart's content. Hopefully that puts an end to the mystery for a while!
You can also click on the video (click the triple dots in the top right hand corner of the video) to download the video – and then post it on other platforms.
So, I can take this video that I created with images from Instagram, and post it on both Facebook and Instagram. It's re-purposing bliss!
Again, at this stage you don't have to create an ad to post to your Facebook Page. The steps for this workaround have changed slightly over the past months, but they continue to let you post without creating an actual ad.
While we are here, let's take a look at some tips for other ways to make slideshow-like videos using some easy tools:
Instagram Slideshow posts open up a lot of creative potential for businesses to tell their brand story.
It allows you to go beyond choosing just one photo to post on your Instagram feed. With tools like Instagram Stories and Instagram Slideshow you can get really creative. And the best part about Slideshow or Carousel posts, is that they count as engagement for the Instagram Algorithm (ie if your followers engage with your content on Carousel posts, Instagram will show them more of your content).
Great topics for Instagram Carousel posts are How-to posts, stats, step-by-step, behind the scenes and more.
Find out more about how to use Instagram Slideshow to combine up to 10 photos and video in the following blog post. Click the image to read it:
This involves creating videos where you take a bunch of image and then flick through them slowly (or more rapidly) to create a video. Just like the Facebook Slideshow tool! To do this I recommend the following tools:
These types of slideshow videos can be added to Facebook or Instagram in video format.
Hot Tip: If you use wave.video, then use the resize tool to convert your square video to portrait and post it as an Instagram Story too!
I know that a lot of people were previously “stuck” on the fact that Facebook had taken our Facebook Slideshow feature away. And now that we know we can use it another way, we can relax a little.
But the reality is that Facebook Slideshow is just a fancy way of creating video for Facebook. If you want to create Video and you're stuck for ideas, then check out my mega-guide for video ideas (including a free download containing all 99 ideas + tools!).
Whatever tool you use to create video (Facebook slideshow, video or otherwise), there is SO much potential for you to create easy video with existing (or new) content.
So…. get creative with it!
Have you used Facebook Slideshow to create engaging videos before? Were you upset that it went away? Excited that we've found it again?

Video is the king of content on Facebook. It averages 8 billion views every single day and has a 135% greater organic reach than photos.
If you’re struggling with the algorithm, video is the easiest way to get around Facebook’s pay-to-play model.
“But I don’t know how to use Adobe Premiere and creating videos takes up way too much of my time!”, you say.
If you want to carve out a piece of the video pie for your brand, keep reading.
In today’s post, we break down exactly how Slideshows can benefit your business and how to use Facebook’s Slideshow maker.
Want to teach your audience something valuable? Or do you have followers hitting up your DMs with questions about how to use your product? Create a Facebook Slideshow and educate your audience in a fun, engaging way.
Take your audience on a visual adventure.
With 2020 well underway, year-end re-caps are coming to an Instagram feed near you.

Want your audience to shiver with antici…pation for your new product?
Facebook Slideshow allows you to give your followers a sneak-peak.
Creating a Facebook Slideshow is SUPER easy.
You don’t need to worry about calling the IT guy in a panic or punching your computer screen.
Simply log in to Facebook on your desktop (you can’t create slideshows on the app) and head straight to your FB page.
Go to the status update section, click on the “Photo/Video” button and select “Create a Slideshow”.
What did I tell you? As easy as pie.
After selecting the “Create a Slideshow” button, a new settings tab will appear.
Here, you can make decisions about the technical elements of your video.
Don’t worry too much about perfecting these settings in the beginning. You can always change them before hitting publish on your slideshow.
Here’s what each of the settings mean:
In the same Settings window, there is a second tab called Music.
It’s the best and worst part of creating a slideshow.
You can instantly add a vibe to your content and make sure it grabs peoples attention.
Luckily, Facebook gives you the option to choose from a selection of royalty-free music (or you can upload your own).
All of the songs are split up into different categories to help you find the best option for your video:
It isn’t Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”, but there are more than enough options to find the right mood for your video.
Now it’s time for the fun part – adding your images!
To create a slideshow on Facebook, you need a minimum of three images and a maximum of ten.
Click on the “Add Photos” button and select images from:
IMPORTANT: Upload the photos in the order you want them to appear on the slideshow. Facebook does not give you the option to rearrange the order of your selection.
Now that you’ve uploaded your images, you can fine-tune your Facebook Slideshow.
Click on the play button to preview your video.
Not happy with the music? Or feel like your image duration is off? Now’s the time to adjust your settings.
Remember, you can’t edit your slideshow after publishing it. Spend as much time as you need to perfect it.
Once you’re confident with all your creative choices, click on the “Create Slideshow” button.
A new screen will load, and you’ll be prompted to fill in a title and description for your video.
Use your wordsmith skills to craft compelling copy which will entice people to tap that play button.
When you’re done, hit “Publish” and your first Facebook Slideshow is live!
Want to use your video on Instagram or your website?
Click on the three dots at the top of the post. You’ll see a drop-down menu appear with the options to download the slideshow or embed it.
