FT: In Iran, students joined new anti-government protests

In Iran, students from several universities held anti-government protests on the first day of the new academic semester, according to the Financial Times.

According to the newspaper, the protests took place in Tehran. Students gathered on campus and chanted slogans against the authorities and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

It is reported that there have been clashes with groups of government supporters at some venues.

“The protests are taking place against the background of escalating tensions in relations with the United States,” the publication emphasizes.

Earlier, the American newspaper The New York Times, citing satellite images and flight data, reported a sharp increase in the number of US military aircraft in Jordan amid worsening relations with Iran.
