Fort Lee (formerly Fort Gregg-Adams), in Prince George County, Virginia is a United States Army post and headquarters of the United States Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM)/ Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE), the U.S. Army Quartermaster School, the U.S. Army Ordnance School, the U.S. Army Transportation School, the Army Sustainment University (ALU), Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA), and the U.S. Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA). Fort Lee also hosts two Army museums (the U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum and the U.S. Army Women's Museum), a Military Entrance Processing Command station, and the vocational training schools for culinary specialists in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. The equipment and other materiel associated with the Army's Ordnance Museum was moved to Fort Gregg-Adams in 2009 and 2010 for use by the United States Army Ordnance Training and Heritage Center. Fort Gregg-Adams is a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of 9,874 as of the 2020 census – nearly triple the size of the 2010 census count.

United States Army Combined Arms Support Command

The U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command (CASCOM) is a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and is located at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. Subordinate to CASCOM is the Sustainment Center of Excellence (SCoE), which oversees and coordinates the five sustainment branches of the Army (Adjutant General Corps, Finance Corps, Ordnance Corps, Quartermaster Corps, Transportation Corps) and the Army Sustainment University. U.S. Army Quartermaster Museum

The United States Army Quartermaster Museum, located at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, is an AAM accredited museum in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The museum's aim is to preserve and exhibit the history of the Quartermaster Corps, which was formed in 1775. Its collection comprises more than 24,000 items. The Museum also serves the Quartermaster Center and School as a classroom for the teaching of history, educating more than 16,000 soldiers, non-commissioned officers, warrant officers, and officers a year.

Charity Adams Earley

Charity Adams Earley (née Adams; December 5, 1918 – January 13, 2002) was a United States Army officer. She was the first African-American woman to become an officer in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (later WACs) and was the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, which was made up of African-American women serving overseas during World War II. Adams was the highest-ranking African-American woman in the army by the completion of the war. A monument honoring her was dedicated at Fort Lee (as it was then called), Virginia on November 30, 2018. The base has since been renamed Fort Gregg-Adams in honor of Earley and Lieutenant General Arthur J. Gregg in 2023, the first-ever U.S. military base bearing the names of African Americans. She is portrayed by Kerry Washington as a lead character in 2024 film The Six Triple Eight showing the experience of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion during their service in Europe.

Army Sustainment University

The Army Sustainment University (formerly Army Logistics University) is the United States Army's center of sustainment training for Department of Defense military and civilian personnel pursuing Professional Military Education (PME) and other associated training in military logistics and sustainment. The Army Sustainment University (ASU) has two campuses. The Somervell Campus at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia, delivers sustainment leader education for Quartermaster, Ordnance, and Transportation Soldiers and civilians. The Adams Campus at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, includes the Soldier Support Institute, which delivers Adjutant General and Financial Management leader education. ASU is a subordinate command to the United States Army Combined Arms Support Command, and is located at Fort Gregg-Adams, Virginia. Arthur J. Gregg

Arthur James Gregg (May 11, 1928 – August 22, 2024) was an American military officer who on July 1, 1977, became the first African American in the U.S. Army to reach the rank of lieutenant general. Previously, he was the first African American brigadier general in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps on October 1, 1972. He served in the U.S. Army for over 30 years with his final assignment as the Army's Deputy Chief of Staff (Logistics) and retired on July 24, 1981. In 2022, the United States Department of Defense announced that Fort Lee outside of Petersburg, Virginia, would be renamed Fort Gregg–Adams to honor both Gregg and Lt. Col. Charity Adams Earley. An important criterion in the redesignation process was to select individuals whose career amplifies and corresponds to the installation being renamed. Gregg was a career logistician who was assigned to Fort Lee many times during his career. Adams supported the Adjutant General Corps (as a WAC). Fort Gregg-Adams is the center and home of logistics and sustainment for the U.S. Army. Gregg attended the renaming ceremony on April 27, 2023, and became the first living person in modern American history to have a U.S. military institution named after him.
