Fonda, New YorkFonda is a village in and the county seat of Montgomery County, New York, United States. The population was 668 at the 2020 census, down from 795 in 2010. The village is named after Douw Fonda, a Dutch-American settler who was killed and scalped in 1780, during a Mohawk raid in the Revolutionary War, when the tribe was allied with the British. The village of Fonda is in the town of Mohawk and is west of Amsterdam. In 1993, the Mohawk people bought land near the village to re-establish the Kanatsiohareke community formerly at this site. The Fonda Fair is an annual agricultural event that takes place in August.

Fonda 200The Fonda 200 is a 100-mile-long (161 km) modified motor race that is held at the Fonda Speedway. The race was run in 1955, 1963–1964, 1966–1970, 1983–1995, 1997–2002, 2019, and 2021 to the present. The 1955, 1966, 1967, and 1968 races were sanctioned by NASCAR. Notable drivers have included Junior Johnson, David Pearson, Richard Petty, and Bobby Allison. Brett Hearn has won the race four times, which is more than any other driver. There is a prize of $53,000 for the winner. The race was not run in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions. The next race will be run on September 13, 2025.
Fonda SpeedwayFonda Speedway is a half-mile (0.8 km) dirt oval track located in Fonda, New York. The track hosted NASCAR Cup Series races in 1955 and 1966 to 1968. It is home to the Fonda 200. The track hosts Saturday night races with Modified, Sportsman, Limited Sportsman, Pro Stock, and 4 Cylinder classes (as of 2021).
