Encryption means conversion of your data into an unreadable form
So that others cant Access it without your permission.
On the other hand decryption is opposite to that.
recovery will never ask password
and anyone can access your data from recovery.
Most of the rom are encrypted by default
As you format data
your phone automatically encrypts.

Can I flash magisk on encrypted builds with PixelOS recovery?
Yes, you can sideload it
How to flash encrypted builds?
- Reboot to fastboot mode
- Flash PixelOS recovery fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
- Sideload ROM using ADB
- Go to Advanced and Format Data
Flashing Instructions
Clean flash - Encrypted (coming from a different ROM):
• Download ROM
• Download Magisk (optionally)
• Reboot to recovery (reignz latest twrp recommended)
• Format data (if encrypted)
• Wipe system, vendor, cache, dalvik, data
• Flash latest firmware
• Flash ROM zip
• Reboot
• To get root access, reboot to recovery after ROM setup and flash magisk.
Clean flash - Decrypted:
• Download ROM
• Download Magisk (optionally)
• Download DFE
• Reboot to recovery (reignz latest twrp recommended)
• Wipe system, vendor, cache, dalvik, data
• Flash latest firmware
• Flash ROM zip
• Reboot
• To get root access, reboot to recovery after ROM setup and flash magisk.
Updating to a newer build (dirty flash):
• Flash ROM zip, DFE (if decrypted) and magisk (optional)
• Wipe system, vendor, cache, dalvik
• Reboot
