FAQ: Ascension Seasons

Hey everyone! A few days ago we shared news about the upcoming Ascension Seasons system with you, and you had some questions. A lot of them.

To make things clearer, we've gathered quite a few of your questions and answered them all in this article, so dive in!

How do Ascension Seasons work with the existing Ascension system? Do they replace or change it?

Ascension Seasons expand the existing Ascension system rather than replace it. The current Ascension Spire, Hero Ascension trees, branches, and progression rules remain unchanged.

Each season adds two new Ascension Skills to the featured Hero’s existing tree: the first skill is placed on Branch II and the second on Branch V.

Previously released Ascension Skills, including those belonging to collaboration Heroes, will not be changed or reworked as part of this feature. Players will still be able to unlock and develop them through the existing Ascension system as before.

Star Mana, Eternal Seeds, Ascension Crystals, Insignias, and other existing Ascension resources are not being removed, replaced, or converted. They will retain their current functions, and all the regular Ascension nodes granting stats will keep requiring them.

The new Ascension Dust and Ascension Shards are used specifically for the additional seasonal progression and do not replace the existing resources.

Under the current design, players must own the featured Hero, have a Team Level of at least 65, and have Asgard unlocked.

Using the featured Hero in battle is not mandatory, but it increases the number of Season Points earned. Players can still earn points without placing the Hero in their team, although at a lower rate.

How are the skills unlocked during the season, and how can players retain access after it ends?

All eligible owners of the featured Hero receive both skills at Grade 0 during the season. Note that even at Grade 0, each skill already grants a powerful effect that becomes stronger with each subsequent Grade. The first skill is connected to Ascension Branch II, while the second is connected to Branch V.

During the season, developing these branches is not required to receive temporary access to the skills. You gain access to the Seasonal Ascension Skills and can upgrade them with Dust and Shards even if you have not progressed through that Hero’s Ascension Spire.

After the season, a skill remains available if at least one of the following independent conditions has been met:

  • the corresponding Ascension branch has been developed to the point of connection with Grade 0 Ascension node;
  • the paid Ascension Season Pass has been purchased;
  • an Ascension seasonal offer has been purchased.

Developing Branch II permanently unlocks the first skill, while developing Branch V permanently unlocks the second.

Purchasing the paid Season Pass grants permanent access to both skills at their achieved grades, even if the corresponding Ascension branches have not been developed.

What happens if a player upgrades only one skill or completes only part of the progression?

The two skills have independent progression. Upgrading one does not affect the other.

All achieved grades and partial progress are saved after the season. If the player has not secured permanent access to a skill, that skill becomes unavailable in battle, but its achieved grade and progress remain visible and are not reset.

During the season, developing these branches is not required to receive temporary access to the skills. You gain access to the Seasonal Ascension Skills and can upgrade them with Dust and Shards even if you have not progressed through that Hero’s Ascension Spire.

How many grades does each skill have?

Each skill has four grades, from Grade 0 to Grade 3:

  • Grade 0 is granted at the beginning of the season for free;
  • Grade 1 requires 200 units of the corresponding resource;
  • Grade 2 requires 500 units in total;
  • Grade 3 requires 1,250 units in total.

The first skill uses Ascension Dust, while the second uses Ascension Shards. Gold is also required when unlocking each new grade.

Each grade increases the power of the corresponding skill, but the exact gameplay changes depend on the individual skill.

How do we unlock and upgrade these Ascension Skills, and how does the Season Pass work?

All eligible owners of the featured Hero receive both skills at Grade 0 for free from the beginning of the season.

All subsequent Grades are unlocked using Ascension Dust and Ascension Shards, which can be obtained from the free and paid tracks of the Season Pass, as well as from special offers.

During the first Ascension Season, players will not be able to gift each other Tickets for the paid Season Pass track.

Similar to other Seasons, if the paid Pass is purchased later during the season, players can collect the paid rewards from the levels they have already completed.

Are Ascension Dust and Shards shared between seasons, or are they tied to a specific season?

Ascension Dust and Shards are seasonal resources tied to the specific Ascension Season in which they are obtained. They cannot be carried over to future seasons or used to upgrade the Ascension Skills of Heroes featured in previous or upcoming seasons.

They are used only for their corresponding seasonal progression and do not replace Star Mana or other existing Ascension resources.

Previous seasonal skills will instead have their own post-season upgrade paths, eventually becoming upgradable with regular Ascension resources. The specific time frame of the unlock is not yet finalized, but the unlock cycle will be at least a few months long.

What happens to unused Ascension Dust and Shards after the season?

Ascension Dust and Shards cannot be stored and carried over from one season to another.

Once the season ends, unused resources will be exchanged automatically. We will publish the exact conversion rates and rewards in our Help Center when the season begins.

How and when can unfinished skills be upgraded after the season?

All grades and partial progress achieved during the season are saved.

There are might be additional offers for upgrading these skills further after the end of the Season, and eventually skills will become available for upgrading with the usual Ascension resources (preliminary, with Eternal Seeds). But the exact costs and progression unlock timeline have not yet been finalized.

The original Ascension Dust and Shards will not be used for this progression because they are converted after the season.

The Battle Pass, seasonal quests, and Season Point activities end together with the 25-day season and will no longer be available afterward.

How are Season Points earned, and can the main track be completed without spending or participating in every game mode?

The main Battle Pass contains 50 levels and the season lasts 25 days.

Season Points can be earned in:

  • Arena;
  • Grand Arena;
  • Dungeon;
  • Guild War;
  • Clash of Worlds;
  • Campaign.

Points are awarded for both victories and defeats. Using the featured Hero increases the number of points earned, but is not mandatory.

No individual game mode is required. Players can combine different activities based on how they normally play, although completing all 50 levels assumes consistent participation.

Spending is not required to complete the main track. However, players who participate infrequently or earn points at the lowest possible rate may not finish all 50 levels before the season ends.

How often will Ascension Seasons take place, and how will future Heroes be selected?

The current plan is to run Ascension Seasons approximately once a month, with each season lasting 25 days. The cadence may be adjusted based on results and player feedback.

The Ascension Season is a separate activity. It does not replace the existing Ascension system.

We are not ready to announce a public roadmap or the upcoming featured Heroes yet. For now we will be working on heroes that don’t have Ascension skills, and potentially in the future we’ll look into adding heroes that already have ascension skills.

See you in Dominion!
