Mongolian Prince Mei Li and the Prince of Qing Dynasty, Jing Xuan fell in love with each other at first sight. But suddenly Mei Li's father died tragically during a fight with the assassinator.
The loving atmosphere is surrounding between Jing Xuan and Mei Li. Yet, Mei Li still doesn't know anything about her father's death.
The politics in the Palace is getting tense. Su Ying, the rival of Mei Li, also loves Jing Xuan and trying to trap her.
Mei Li falls in love with Jing Xuan. She is so brave to talk to the Concubine of the Palace about this, and hope that she can be married to Jing Xuan one day.
Mei Li found out that Concubine Jing looks remarkably like the queen that just passed away, and she also found out that it's because of Ziqing so that she can become a Concubine in the palace.
The Emperor is angry with Concubine Jing and put her into jail. Ziqing is trying to ask the Emperor to let her out, but the Emperor doesn't want to see her either.
Ziqing died because of the accident. Before she loses her breath, she asked the Emperor to take good care of the Concubine Jing. The officials in the Palace all asking the Emperor to punish Mei Li.
In order to save Mei Li, the Emperor offer a deal to Jing Xuan, which he will be forced to marry with Princess Su Ying. Jing Xuan agreed, and he promised won't see Mei Li for at least three years.
Mei Li is being tortured by the old servant ladies in the palace. At the same time, Jing Xuan has been forcing to married to Princess Su Ying, but he told the Emperor that he will do it after the war ends.
The grand empress sent Yong He to settle the disputes between Zha Yi Er and Teng Yi Bu; it's all because she wants Mei Li and Yong He to be together.
Concubine Jing is trying to poison Mei Li, but fortunately, Mei Li didn't eat the poisoned snack. However, when Mei Li heard about the news that Jing Xuan and Su Ying is about to get married, she's desperate and tries to kill herself.
There's a fire suddenly happened in the palace. Mei Li is brave enough to get into the fire to save the old servant ladies.
Mei Li lost consciousness from saving the old servant lady in the fire. When she wakes up, she has made up her mind that she wants to move out of the palace.
Mei Li is trying to keep a distance with Jing Xuan, that makes him very upset. On the other hand, Jing Xuan found out that the grand empress would like to put Mei Li and Yong He together, and he's getting very angry about that too.
When Yong He takes Mei Li to the street, people are saying some bad things to her. Yong He is putting a lot of defense trying to protect Mei Li.
Jing Xuan is jealous about Mei Li being too close with Yong He. To get Mei Li's attention, Jing Xuan is trying to show he's very close with Su Ying in front of Mei Li.
Mei Li falls off from the horse, and Jing Xuan immediately went to save her. Su Ying gets very jealous about it. To get Jing Xuan's attention, she's even trying to make herself sick.
When Jing Xuan saws Mei Li and Yong He being together, he finally decided to let go of his feeling to Mei Li, and stay with Su Ying.
Jing Xuan and Mei Li fall off the cliff together. They stayed with each other down the cliff with each other for one night. After they return to the palace, everybody is talking about their relationship.
Emperor Kang Xi was touched by Jing Xuan and decide let Jing Xuan marry Mei Li. However, Mei Li asked the supreme queen to follow budda and become a nun.
After discussing with Xiao Cui, Mei Li decided to leave the nun Temple. They were caught by Gao Tu in the Black Tiger Marsh.
Yong He wanted to stop the marriage between Jing Xuan and Mei Li, but were stunned and imprisoned by her father.
Jing Xuan and Mei Li were married, but Jing Xuan discovered that Mei Li was not a virgin. He suspected that Mei Li lost her virginity to Yong He. Yong He wanted to poison Jing Xuan.
Sang Zhu threatened to commit suicide to force King Ning to let Yong He marry her. Jing Guifei understood that Jung Ke marries San Ju just to prepare for revenge.
King Ning wanted to assign Jing Guifei as the Queen. Jing Xuan expressed his objection mildly, which increased Jing Guifei's hatred towards Jing Xuan.

A flawed story, the heroine beleagured constantly ends up commottong suicide, the coward's way out, leaving a sobbing baby boy. She begins the movie a feisty girl who ends up in a prison like setting and fights against following rules to the point of beating, but doesn't stand up for either herself or her child. She's doubted by her husband as to her virtue but never gives an explanation as to WHY she didn't stain the white sheet, even though her maid begs her to explain why to the new husband setting up an entire series of misconceptions. Then, you have swaths of dialogue NOT translated so you're at a loss as to what's going on, then, you have the out of sync dialogue which is terrible. The costuming is NOT great with the heroine wearing the same outfit her entire pregnancy as well as the Empress, wearing perhaps wearing perhaps two. NOT big budget. It's not worth the investment of time for this tragic story and it sends a terrible message, because it's not a true story, this was a chance to change a narrative that a woman's life is worth nothing. No one fought for her and in the end she didn't fight for herself or worse, she left her baby.

Actually the series really deserves 5 stars. It's an outstanding story that tackles so many relationship issues as well as the ancient rules of society and when they are obsolete and if you can actually make change in an constructive caring way . The acting from main actors to supporting actors..senior and the child actors is so full of talent and is truly wonderful to watch. There is awesome cinematography : music, dance and costumes and so much more
You can leave the series with a peaceful heart because evil finally finds it's punishment in this story...
But a major problem is the translation ...totally untranslated frames in the the middle of important parts of episodes misplaced frames very poor translation......there are letters and documents that are not translated at all making it difficult to know what is going on..... If it wasn't for the actors and the enticing story line, I would have left off watching a few times. It also would have been much better for me to know Yun Ke's future was solid and that Yun Jue was saved from growing up with hate in his heart and that finally these children could have a happy childhood.....but we all love to dream.

Not worth the watch as the ending will upset you to no end. Honestly a beautiful love story IF the heroine had not been written so tragically and basically stupid. I mean what kind of message are we hoping to send to our daughters here? "When the going gets tough, lay down and just take it?" what a crap ending honestly. Also translations has mind of its own. NOT all scenes are translated. Translators are like "they don't need to know whats going on here..... Yea no translation". The scene where Guifei finally gets her due for all her evil acts, the scene was NOT translated. We just watched assuming she got punished well. Honestly watch if you want to be frustrated!

I love Chinese and Korean historical dramas. This one though, it's absolutely pathetic.
Main character first appears as young girl behaving like 10 years old boy with mild cognitive symptoms develops into young woman who barely can speak.
Characters are not developed, it's full of "50 yards martial arts jumps" and other pathetic '80s type effects. Costumes are pretty but it's obvious they didn't have enough budget so everybody wears the same outfit over and over.
At about episode 3 (after skipping forward constantly) I jumped to ep. 12 then 20 then 30. Not worth wasting your time

Beautifully written and produced tragic Chinese love story. Characters were intense and individual. Costumes were sumptuous and gorgeous. Settings were well thought out. Story was complicated and involved-- full of joy, deception, love, loyalty, mis-understanding, violence, betrayal, murder, and rescue. What more could you ask for?
Brought all kinds of emotions--tears, fear, frustration, anger, joy, satisfaction, etc. Couldn't stop watching it.
Loved the main actors--especially Mickey He and the female lead. Also really liked the Dowager Empress. She was beautiful.
Unlike other reviews, the ending made sense to me.

I was rather disappointed at the end of the series. I would have expected the writers to grant Me Lie a longer period of happiness, but that didn't work out. Furthermore, I found it heartless for the kid to be orphaned at the end. He could have had at least one parent to survive to help him endure the loss of the other parent! Yet these simple azz writers decided to otherwise, by letting the parents be happy in Heaven, holding hands, while the child would be left grieving both. DUMB ENDING-Period!

The lead girl is great, sweet, and loving. Being so, everyone hates her and is jealous. She ends up living a miserable life. They notice that she changed after being tormented and they still hate her.

I won't be like other rude reviewers and give away the complete plot. (That's really rude, guys.) But I cried because every kept freaking crying! LIKE BAWLING. OMG.

I took one star off because of quality. The audio and the video stopped matching. Very annoying.
