Sorry if this is not helpful. (I think it will be for some.) I couldn't get more than ... maybe 10-15 minutes into this movie. In the beginning when they showed the dog fights I nearly turned it off, but I thought maybe that'll be it -- no more meanness to dogs, I hoped. But then the dude throws the helpless, practically dying dog off the bridge and that was it, I'm out! For all I know the rest of the movie is great, but I'll never know because I can't deal with that crap. Look, I'm no peta member by any stretch of the imagination, just a dude who loves and respects animals, and I don't like seeing them hurt. So, that was it for me.... Sorry, I'm out! I gave 2 stars because, like I said, maybe the rest of the movie is great and makes up for the dog cruelty in the beginning for some people, so that one extra star is sort of a benefit of the doubt kinda thing. But if the beginning is so ugly I couldn't get farther than 10-15 minutes, something about it obviously sucks!

Based on real life, but just a little bit beyond belief. John Travolta was the dad you gotta like but want to smack. The dog was the star of this movie and the little girl, the best supporting actress. A real "Lassie" kind of movie just a little too raw in the language for a little kid friendly movie, but older kids probably watch even more hard core stuff today, so PG is my rating on this one.

Supposedly, based on a real life experience, the story was amazing and inspiring. The dog played its part so very well; showing all the emotions. We enjoy John Travolta but the cursing took away one star. It was overboard. As a good actor, I bet Travolta could have used lesser offensive words and gotten his point and anger across. A good story for kids but not with the cursing.

Confusing story about a person (Travolta) starting out as a "looser" and ending up as a "looser". The best story of the movie was the dog portraying an arena fighting dog that turns it's life around and becomes the little girl's best friend and protector. The title is also disjointed. I never figured out who has the "Eyes of an Angel". Was it Travolta's eyes, the little girl's eyes, OR was it the eyes of the beautiful dog? Sorry Travolta, but this was not one of your best. Your performance was "rusty" at best.

~ 5 stars for the dog ~ 2 stars for the movie ~ I confess ~ I only watched this movie because of the dog. I can see why most of the reviews were about the Doberman. The movie itself is not that great. It was slow and predictable with so-so acting. The best acting is in this order: #1 - the Doberman #2 - the girl/daughter #3 - the dad/John Travolta I have owned a very large Doberman. They are smart, loyal, loving, and excellent guard dogs.

I watched this movie for the Doberman. The movie is pretty predictable, but the emotion conveyed by the dog and the little girl is fantastic and saves the film. The Doberman is truly a breed that bonds strongly with his/her humans, and the unwavering loyalty is touching. I had to watch it with my Doberman, and cried into his fur during some of the sad scenes.

It was a good story. It was more based around the dog. It was a Hollywood unrealistic film, in so far as how can a trained dog change so quickly, and very mild mob incidents, however, it is a feel good movie especially if you like dogs.

Watched it on Amazon Prime. It was not wide screen. Aspect Ratio should be a wide 2.35 : 1, but you get the sides chopped off with this viewing. The movie itself was not as good as others I could have spent my time on. Wouldn't recommend it. Unless you like dogs, especially Dobermans.

com I was pleased to find the film available for the UK market ...

I am writing this post more to warn people about the quality of this DVD than to comment on the film. As a Dobermann owner and having read the positive reviews on Amazon.com I was pleased to find the film available for the UK market and not for silly money! The sound and picture quality of the DVD I received are dreadful especially at the beginning. The case looked cheap and the DVD was scratched even though it came inside a sealed case. The continuity of the film was dreadful. I originally thought it was the fault of the film editing, but when it kept happening, I found it hard to believe that a director's cut could possibly be so bad! It was as if someone had recorded it and done their own editing. I would be watching the film and then it would suddenly cut without warning straight into another scene which took me a few seconds to orientate myself and try and work out what I was now watching. This kept happening and I gave up watching it. A very disappointing experience, which has left me with a lot of questions about this particular DVD. I have contacted the Spanish seller (Great-DVDs) today and am awaiting their response. I have had a reply through Amazon today and I am being refunded for the DVD. The seller has been asked to look into the quality of this DVD.

Great film and would happily watch again

Great film and would happily watch again, but it seems like sections of the film jumped forward, felt there were snippets missing, but maybe it's just how it was filmed
