This book provides an analysis of the nature and role of Satanic cults in the United States in the 1970s and 1980s, and explores their origins, history, and characteristics.
According to the author, Satanism has a variety of connotations: the renunciation and denial of a Christian God, the ascendance of evil over good, the forces of darkness, the use of ritual evocations of demons, and sacrifices. Satanic religions are as old as monotheism and have their origins in Persia of the sixth century. However, Satanism is not a worldwide conspiracy. The vast majority of Satanists belong to neo-Satanic churches and represent no threat to society. Satanic and non-Satanic religious cults that advocate and practice violence should be watched by authorities, but care must be taken to assure that innocent groups are not persecuted simply for having unorthodox beliefs. We must also recognize that many theories, like that of a child-molesting conspiracy of Satanists, are not supported by any evidence, but are the product of a sensationalist media. Case examples, index, and 82 references.

Something went wrong. Wait a moment and try again.
Some years ago an individual I thought I knew, but didn’t, explained why he worshipped Satan, and despised God and Christians. He had a Bible in his hand and was reading it, he made comments that shocked me, he reversed everything I believed. In his opinion God in the Old Testament, and the Apostle Paul were evil. He said Jesus was okay, nothing more. I was so stunned I didn’t know what to say. He explained he had been abused over and over and over again in his youth. He said incest was permitted, sex with minors was permitted, and heterosexuals one day will be made into breeders. This man is twisted beyond measure. His Xxxxxxxs page had an image of Jesus on The Cross, it had two demons that had dog heads and human body’s with dog legs, doing things to Jesus. I then saw his Friends had the same image on their home screen. How in the world Xxxxxxxx allowed that, I can’t explain, it traumatizes me to see it. I complained to Xxxxxxxx and it was removed. This individual is evil himself. He became a clone of his evil abusers.
In my opinion how a person lives shows who they worship. In our American society many people think all religions are relative and should be respected. Some people have bumper stickers to push inclusiveness. I’ll stay an outsider.

Well… not even going to mention any religions because this topic does not need to reference any (in an endorsing or limiting way, anyway).
How are you defining evil? How are you defining worship?

Lots of people equate “evil” with remorseless power and/or the actualization of ones’ will at whatever expense… in some ways capitalism and consumerism are all about it. A lot of the actual (generally unspoken) values of the Western world circulate around concepts of personal autonomy and will, and ruthless pursuit of more without ability to delay gratification or consider longer-term and external consequences. Wealth and status are the perennial concern of the zeitgeist of the West since the French Revolution, essentially. Be that money, property/land, “likes”, fame, fortunate marriages, slaves etc. A lot of misery flows from all of this restless and selfish grasping. People seem to worship wealth and status.
Now… evil in a metapyhsical sense? If you actually happen to believe in Platonic evil, then perhaps you believe that by aligning with it will grant you some special benefit… or that you will at least be spared from some sort of pain or loss that it would otherwise wreak on you. Ultimately that is why people do anything : To get something, or to avoid something. Perhaps some people feel that they have been “screwed over” by the societally identified “forces of good”.
Or, their values just align more with what society has designated “evil”.
