When I first played through a route, several months ago, I remember there was an option somewhere that allowed you to toggle the 'adult' content on or off (at default, off, nude scenes would be a black screen). I went today for another route and I don't seem to see that option anywhere. Has the adult content been removed from Steam?

Adult content never was available on the Steam version, they're strict on that (party poopers). You have to download a patch file and drop it into the right directory to "restore" AO content. Save you the trouble: http://everlastingsummer.su/en/ Download the patch and put it in the folder: %Steam%\SteamApps\common\Everlasting Summer\game\ Patch restores all hentai pictures and their display in gallery. Doesn't affect achievements and stuff! This goes for Windows, Mac and Linux users.

it wont let me downlaod it. it keeps jsut showing me diamonds or something,

I barely hear Everlasting Summer brought up in conversations about VNs. I want to know how many have you have played it and what your thoughts are if you have. I personally loved it, it's one of my favourite VNs. The art style, writing and music are all great in my opinion.
If you haven't played it, but are interested, it's free to download on Steam.
Also played it, wouldn't say I loved it. It was good, nothing more.
While the music and art is fantastic, I feel like the characters were not as fleshed out as they should have been.
The story, which was really interesting, focused more on semyon's journey, which in my case, made me stop caring about the girls. Their personalities did not evolve as much as what I usually like in VN's. It is the only Vn I have played in which I don't have a favorite character.
It is still worth playing for the story which gets really interesting in some character arks, and I'm looking forward to see what they do with their next game, which should come out this year!
I am from russian-speaking country. I can easily agree that if it's not that great overall, but it is great for Russians, because for most of them Summer was their first VN, and had the same effect as Katawa Shoujo or DDLC now. While it has a lot of references to anime, bigger part of them are references to Soviet movies or russian imageboards, so it is really easy for them to feel nostalgic to it. I have friends who hate anime, but still decided to play it, and hugely enjoyed it. Everlasting Summer is actually considered one of the best games produced in Russia.
Its really not about the girls but about the MC as he uses different approaches to his adventure.
Some of the music has since stuck with me since the gane has a really unique soundtrack.
Its FREE, so if youre hesitating just try it
I haven't been following it closely, but, as far as I know, it went through many years of development hell. That might have affected the story/characters.
I used it to practice Russian a bit, but stopped doing it after a couple of endings. I think I reached like 2 true endings of characters and didn't think it's worth it to pursue it anymore. So apparently I haven't read the "juicy parts" that everyone is so hyped for. Well, at least I probably have the highest reading time out of everyone here with 118 hours :D.
I simply fail to understand what makes it so good/outstanding compared to other indie VNs. It's typical harem stuff with every stereotype you can imagine, written from the perspective of an incredibly boring wuss to whom I felt like screaming "MAN UP DUDE" constantly. I didn't find a single thing that I really thoroughly enjoyed in this VN, and reading through it with the huge language difficulties was incredibly frustrating, since most sentences did not really give me valuable new information (when you need a minute for every sentence, it becomes much more apparent how tight the writing is and how much fluff text is in there).
At the very least it gave me some good practice at the time since the language wasn't that difficult, plus the background work is magnificient. But as a VN, it's probably among the worst I have read. There were some interesting aspects brought up from time to time, but their conclusion or even non-conclusion made it completely irrelevant.
I liked the idea of it more than the execution. Neat setting and concept, mediocre writing.
It has a special place in my heart because it's what got me into vn's in the first place.

One of my favorites as well. Has a certain unusual style to it that I like very much.
The story frame was also very relatable for me. I cried in the end.
There's an android version out there as well. It quite the battery sink, but if you want to take it on the go, you don't need steam. That said, this game was a trip. I'm still not sure I understood most of it. I rarely made saves unless I was done for the night. Played a couple routes, was disappointed at the endings. I know the ones I want are out there, I just haven't gotten back to this mysterious game just yet.
Played through it the first 2 times without a guide and the used a guide to get all available endings and scenes afterwards.
It's probably not my favorite, but moreso because the all VN's i've been through could be considered good at least and several great. ES does however hold an edge on the others being the most unique in a couple ways, so even if it stays on the top of my somewhat short "played VN's" list, i wouldn't call it a favorite and opinions change with time. When i had just completed it, it likely was my favorite, being all fresh in my mind a such.
Great stuff: The soundtrack is simply superb. Its music isn't heavily dominated by piano pieces and that is very refreshing. Backgrounds too are in the top tier category, scenery porn as you might name it.
Route variation: One thing i liked about some of the routes was the way they diverged from the standard romantic progression and instead tried for something different. I also happen to like the amount of decisions made and their impact. It wasn't too difficult and time consuming to get through all the different route and endings.
The art style was another way ES made itself stand out from the crowd.
Good or acceptable: I found the main plot and the topics it deals with to be quite interesting. It deals deals with some heavy topics, mostly related to existentialism. The writing could indeed be better at several points. As someone else in this thread wrote, the concept is there, but the execution is somewhat lacking. I myself liked the polar nature of the plot. On one side you have "solving the mystery of the world" and on the other side "establishing relationships on a summercamp trip".
I'll put the characters here. Being based on mascots of the 2chan site, they are fairly trope bound as far as VN characters goes and i would of course like to see a bit more nuances from pretty much all main characters.
Mediocre or bad: I mentioned liking the art style earlier. However, this art style, much like the writing, gets the concept right but misses on the actual implementation. The sprites are not outright low quality, but they could do with a bit more polishing.
The CG's shares the same problem. On average they are mediocre in quality, with a few good ones, most in the middle and a fair bit of bad ones. I suppose this is where the "Free" price tag show its face.
It's in my list of things to read. Just haven't got round to it yet.
It was the first vn I played that got me invested in the genre with the first ending I got being a bad one impacting me big time, that gave me the drive to get all the endings and discover the interesting narrative behind it which I didn't expect to be as compelling as it was. Going back to it recently it felt much more average, though thats expected after expanding my experience in the genre
It was created mainly for us, Russians, so for us it's basically like "catcher in th rye" for Americans. I'm very found of it personally, since it creates an original atmosphere using anime memes and elements cozy soviet times and has the main character that resonates the most with me in visual novels ever, but that doesn't automatically making it, well, the best visual novels ever. There are many flaws here and there that already have been listed in the comment section plus writers does not even tried to explain how thus setting works/was created and left it for interpretations for modmakers.
But since its free you can download it anyway and delete if you would not like it.

Well, to be fair, the setting doesn't differ much from your usual summer camp/countryside novels (like Green Green, for example) with your MC being in the middle of nowhere with a bunch of different girls (ranging from genki loli to an actual catgirl) and stupid guy friends, mixed with some mystery. Sure, there are some references to Soviet culture, but it's mostly a fanservice for those, who were born in late 80-s - early 90-s in the USSR/CIS and were raised on a mix of Soviet and Western cinematography.
Other than that, it's a pretty much average novel, a little bit too short for my taste, and heavily influenced by Katawa Shoujo's success. Speaking of which, it's kinda strange that I don't hear much about KS these days, it was fairly enjoyable.
It is the only visual novel that I have read so I won't be able to judge how good of a VN it is. But it is definitely really good according to me. The characters are appealing and the romantic storylines are heart-touching and even sad. If you are thinking of whether or not you should try it, you definitely should.
Music and background are great, but the other details are much, much worse. The CGs differ from „OMG that’s genius“ to „wata hell they took this picture, it’s terrible“. The story begins to be so interesting, but then sometimes turns into some banal predictable school-fanfic. Miku route is unusual, but something not from this story.
I played it for about five hours before quitting. It just never pulled me in. From my understanding, if you were a Russian native, a lot of the imagery/situations triggered nostalgia and feelings for you, (wasn't there a video of a Russian gamer crying on stream while playing this?) but it really didn't do much for me at all.
Jarben, my dude, you gotta put more effort into your posts. I looked through your post history real quick and I know you have it in you to put more than just the title/name of the character of what you're wanting to talk about!
And I haven't played Everlasting Summer because a lot more better things to play instead.
