And then every time Luna comes in all the tension goes and she makes you laugh because she's so funny and really honest. My love of acting really was founded in my love of stories, and a childlike yearning to join in. In retrospect, it seems natural that I should have found my career in acting via the route of being a passionate reader. My professional career began when I played the role of Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter films 5-8. After the Potter films ended, I moved to LA to study acting and get more experience in film. It was in LA where I discovered veganism and also adopted my beautiful feline friend, Puff! I spent 5 years in LA and then moved back to London to pursue my interest in theatre, where Puff and I now live.
As an activist, I focus on animal rights, animal welfare and vegan activism. I went vegetarian at the age of 11 when I began to really think about the foods I was eating. Later, I read the book Eating Animals by Jonathan Safron Foer and cried most of the way through it. I can’t say I went vegan so much as I realised I already was vegan at heart, and just wasn’t acting that way. It took me quite a while to transition to veganism - I found it a lot more challenging than vegetarianism - but eventually I managed to do it in a way that felt abundant and joyful, and I also found a dynamic community of people who inspire me every day for their non-conformist and bold approach to life.
When it comes to my work as an animal rights advocate, I believe that being vegan is the most effective and vital way we can help animals as individuals. Most of my time for activism is now devoted to working on my podcast, The ChickPeeps, which you can learn more about here . If you want to learn more about being vegan and need some support and inspiration on this journey, I would recommend listening to our weekly episodes which are intended for anyone at any stage of their vegan journey - we work really intentionally to be inclusive and supportive. I also work with several other animal rights and welfare charities including, Veganuary , Mercy For Animals , Animal Equality , World Animal Protection , PETA and Compassion in World Farming among others.
I also run a beauty subscription box company called Kinder Beauty with my friends, Daniella Monet and Andrew Bernstein. The idea for Kinder Beauty came about when we realised that most people - not just vegans and vegetarians - are unanimous in their disapproval of animal testing, and yet actually ensuring all your everyday products were not tested on animals can be a laborious and complex process. It has been a real joy to build a brand that combines my love of sparkly eyeshadows and red lipsticks with my resolve to fight against animal testing in the beauty industry.
