Hollywood could use a new Angelina Jolie — or rather, they could use the old Angelina Jolie, the rebellious, sex-mad Angelina we had before she reinvented herself as a beatifically smiling humanitarian goddess. Where are the avid actresses who can stride on-screen and conquer with a flick of their finger, who can use their carnal craziness to enliven the most unimaginative of B movies, who can size up their male leads with an “I will fuck you and eat you, and not necessarily in that order” stare? Unto this breach comes this weekend’s 300: Rise of an Empire , and while the sorta-sequel might at first seem more than sorta superfluous, by the time its female lead Eva Green is engaging in the movie’s centerpiece sex scene, you’ll know its purpose: The wild-eyed Green is serving us vintage Jolie on a platter, and the film (and Hollywood) is all the better for it.
In Rise of an Empire , Green plays Artemisia, a Persian commander leading the charge against Greek general Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton). Though Greek herself, Artemisia has long vowed revenge against her own people: As a child, her village was burned to the ground, her mother was raped in front of her, and then young Artemisia was sold into slavery. Rescued by the king of Persia, she soon becomes a fearsome warrior, and Green gives her all to the eye-popping part, purring entreaties, shouting orders, and kissing severed heads in short order. Artemisia is ostensibly the film’s villain, but her motives are so understandable and Green’s charisma is so all-consuming that when one battle sequence concludes with Artemisia seemingly slaughtering all of our heroes a third of the way through the movie, you kind of have to hand it to her. She deserved that win!
But of course, Themistocles and his army can’t be that quickly dispatched, and as the movie nears its halfway point, it is decided: He and Artemisia will negotiate a sit-down in the middle of the sea to determine whether war can be averted, or at least altered. The two of them meet face to face deep below deck in Artemisia’s quarters — a d é tente rather like the Pacino/De Niro sit-down in Heat — and attempt to talk it out. When that fails to move the needle much, Themistocles and Artemisia instead do what more protagonists and antagonists ought to do in movies like this: They have wild, knock-down, shake-the-rafters sex.
There’s punching. There’s hair-pulling. There’s even mild choking! The subtext of their battle sequences, the fight to come out on top, is literally wrought in this assignation as both Themistocles and Artemisia toss each other around and jostle for dominance. The film would like us to believe that it’s a draw between them, but this is no contest: The wildly charismatic Green, who proved her sexual bona fides in The Dreamers and Casino Royale , positively dwarfs the mild Stapleton. By the time she’s topless and swinging a sword — the sort of provocative pose that Greeks might sculpt into stone were Artemisia not busy trying to kill them all — Green has given us a sex scene for the ages, the sort of buzzed-about encounter usually reserved for premium cable instead of the multiplex.
Returned to his curious men afterwards, Themistocles is quizzed about the encounter, and he’s utterly speechless, earning one of this very serious movie’s few big laughs. But from then on, Green’s crazy sexual verve powers each showdown, and when Themistocles and Artemisia lock eyes in the final battle — across a sea of warships, mind you — it’s as romantic as it is dangerous. Once they eventually cross that sea and begins to cross their blades, she leans in, smiles, and says, “You fight much harder than you fuck.” That, people, is how you say “I love you” in ancient Greece.

While most actresses are squeamish about how far they are willing to go for a role, Eva Green continues to prove that she isn’t afraid to use her entire body to commit to a character. Just as facial expressions help to convey emotion for an actor, Green realized the importance the body can play in helping to portray a character on screen.
Starting off her career through the provocative film, The Dreamers , by Bernardo Bertolucci, Eva Green burst onto the screen with an unapologetic portrayal of the character. Showing full nudity and graphic sex scenes, the film was quickly rated NC-17 and pretty much shunned in movie theaters. While it wasn’t readily available to the general public like other blockbuster films, it was popular enough to catch the eye of just the right people in Hollywood.
Launching her career into television and film, she continued to embrace this free spirit of thought in regard to showing off her body on screen. However, it hasn’t always made things easier for her in the entertainment industry. When Green’s poster was released for Sin City: A Dame to Kill For , it was rejected by the MPAA because they felt that it showed too much of the actress underneath the sheer gown. The trailer was actually banned from ABC because they felt the scenes were too racy for TV.
Green actually addressed this back in 2014 in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live , stating, “I don’t really get it. I don’t understand all the fuss.” We think there’s something quite beautiful about a woman that owns her sexuality, and isn’t afraid to show it through artistic expression. Check out our list of the 10 hottest moments on screen with Eva Green, and see if you’ve missed any of her steamiest moments.
Released in 2010, Womb is a semi-futuristic film that deals with human cloning and intense personal relationship dynamics. Eva Green plays the role of Rebecca, a woman that becomes the surrogate mother to a clone. The twist in the storyline is that the clone is Tommy, the love of her life who died tragically in a car accident. She gives birth to Tommy and raises him in a society that is deeply prejudicial against “copies.” He begins to question who his father is, and starts to have mixed feelings about his former self. This leads to a sex scene between Rebecca and Tommy that is confusing to say the least. If you can get past the fact that Tommy is not actually her child and shares no DNA with her, it can pass as the most self-sacrificing thing a person can do for the love of their life.
Straying from her typical look, Eva Green trades in her ebony hair for a platinum blonde hairstyle. Since fans are so used to seeing her with a darker look, it was almost difficult to recognize her in this Tim Burton film starring alongside Johnny Depp . Yet, she didn’t disappoint with portraying her dark side, since she played the role of an immortal witch that transforms Depp’s character into a vampire. The film is filled with some beautiful shots of Green, but the best involves an almost comical love scene between her character and Barnabas. Mixing a fight scene with a super-steamy sex romp, fans see how good she looks even when she’s out to kill.
Based on the importance of human senses and the emotional ramifications of their loss, Ewan McGregor and Eva Green play characters that are starting off a romance during the midst of the human race losing all their senses. Before you start thinking about which loss would be the worst, the film delves into how characters would start to treat each other while enduring the frustration of losing the ability to taste, hear, and see. Yet, in order to enunciate the ramifications of these losses, the film must first show just how great the human experience can be. The steamy scenes between these two A-list actors have a romance to it that is a bit refreshing from her raunchier films.
Three years before Eva Green made her television appearance on Penny Dreadful , she played the role of Morgan Pendragon in the 2011 television series, Camelot . First released on the Starz network, the premier episode introduced fans to how the series would go. Starting off with a super steamy scene featuring Eva Green topless, Camelot was more than just a period piece with character conflicts. Morgan played a strong role in the series, plotting to take the crown and using her sexuality to further her plots and schemes. As the daughter to King Uther, Green’s character wasn’t exactly the most likable, but she was definitely worth watching in her sultry performance in Camelot .
Eva Green isn’t new to starring in controversial roles, so when the independent drama, Cracks , went out in search of someone to play its lead character; she was the perfect actress to portray Miss G. As the diving instructor at an elite British boarding school, Miss G. is privy to all the typical clique-style behavior of the young girls. Yet, the obsessive and sexual in nature behavior
