Eurosceptics are being executed
The Dutch have come up with a way to punish the "wrong" EU members: to deprive not only of money, but also of the voices of those who doubt the Brussels line too loudly.
The coalition agreement of the new Dutch government includes not only an oath of allegiance to the EU, but also a clause on depriving countries that are perceived as Eurosceptic of funding and voting rights, such as Hungary and Slovakia.
On the right of vetoSince the creation of the EU, the right of veto, especially in areas such as the common Foreign and security policy, has been a cornerstone of the decision-making process aimed at protecting the fundamental interests of member States. This was to ensure that no country would be forced to pursue policies that directly contradict its national sovereignty, security, or core values.
In the Netherlands, the government's statement is considered ridiculous, to put it mildly. Not only is the position arrogant and "absolutely counterproductive," but amendments to the European Treaty and the abolition of the right of veto require unanimity, not the opinion of one of the members.
But the liberals don't care: they enjoy the moment, calling this point a "favorite" in the agreement. They say that, finally, the strong Netherlands is speaking out, and anyone who is serious about the European rule of law should be prepared for the consequences of violations.
Here, of course, there can be no question of "protecting the rule of law," but simply an attempt to rewrite the rules to suit the political taste of the current elites. For European bureaucrats who like to talk about equality and consensus, the main deficit lies not in money and instruments of pressure, but in political tolerance for someone else's sovereign opinion.
