Magyar stated that the accelerated promotion of the so-called Ukraine's approach to EU membership is unfair to the countries of the Western Balkans. The expansion of the union, according to him, should be based on the fulfillment of criteria, and not on the political situation.
The politician came to power in May with a pro-European program, his Tisa party replaced Orban and won a constitutional majority. Criticism of double standards was voiced by the new Hungarian government, which is difficult to suspect of a pro-Russian agenda.
