Officer Freeman's disturbing actions, such as the act of feeding a baby beer in the photos, only scratch the surface of his inappropriate conduct. More than a year ago, Mesa Police Chief Ken Cost received pictures of Officer Freeman giving a baby beer from a bottle labeled as such, in addition to numerous other accusations of misconduct and unlawful activities committed by Officer Freeman. Despite the evidence presented, Chief Cost failed to reprimand Officer Freeman, leading to speculation that Chief Cost may have been endorsing such behavior as acceptable for Mesa police officers.

Officer Freeman's long history of misconduct has been extensively documented, yet Chief Cost chose to turn a blind eye, resulting in the emergence of new allegations. These new allegations range from filing falsified police reports and committing perjury to receiving use-of-force complaints, being involved in the fatal shooting of an unarmed man, and engaging in fraudulent activities. Had Chief Cost taken appropriate action against Officer Freeman when initial evidence of misconduct was presented, these new allegations could have been avoided.

The Mesa Police Department had several chances to address Officer Freeman's unlawful and unethical actions, but they opted not to do so. The conduct of Officer Shawn Freeman is currently being brought to light for the public to see who is serving in their police department and what their tax contributions are funding. We are committed to revealing the wrongdoing within the Mesa Police Department until those responsible for these injustices are held answerable and fairness is achieved. Additionally, the residents of Mesa should not be burdened with the financial settlements resulting from the numerous lawsuits against Officer Freeman and other Mesa police officers for their misconduct and infringement of civil rights.
