Kadınların eteğinin altında kalan kasık bölgesi, iç çamaşırı ve cinsel organının izinsiz ya da gizli görüntülenmesidir. Görüntüleme bir fotoğraf, video veya illüstrasyon da olabilmektedir. Bu terim genel olarak herhangi bir röntgencinin çektiği, görüntüleri aramak için kullanılır. Başka bir deyişle, özel bir anda kişinin habersiz yakalanmış etek altı ndaki görüntüsünü ifade eder. İzinsiz ya da gizlice yapılıyorsa röntgencilik ; kadının izni varsa, cinsel fetişizm uygulama biçimi olarak kabul edilmektedir. Etek altı röntgenciliği etik değildir ve kamuya açık bir yerde, kişinin mahremiyetinin ihlal edilmesidir.
Bu terim yeni olmamakla birlikte, ucu çok eski zamanlara dayanmaktadır. Bir kadının eteğinin altına bakmak, Jean-Honoré Fragonard'ın Swing adlı 1767 tablosunda tasvir edildi. Eski zamanlarda, kadının eteğinin altına bakmak kaba ve müstehcen sayılırdı. Bazı toplumlarda, kadının eteğini yukarı sıyırarak, iç çamaşırı açığa çıkacak şekilde dans etmesi ticari bir eğlence gösterisi olmuştur. Erkeklere hizmet eden bu gösteriler, kimi toplum tarafından çok ahlaksız olarak değerlendirildi.
1960'larda mini eteğin popüler olması, konsepti caddelere taşımış ve bu moda teşhircilik olarak görülmüştür. Aynı dönemde Avrupa ülkelerinde, mini eteğin sokaklarda yasaklanması ve tecavüz çağrısı yapıldığına dair söylentiler mevcuttur. Bu çağrıyı, dini cemaat liderlerinin yaptığı iddia edilmiştir.
Aynı yıllarda birçok kadın, dönemin siyasi isyan atmosferini, kendi bedenlerinin kurtuluşu olarak görmekteydi. İlk kez plajlarda mayo ve sokaklarda mini etek giyerek, bacaklarına değen rüzgarı rahatça hissettiler.
Bazı etek altı kayıtları, kadının itirazı olmaksızın çekilen, masum görüntülerden oluşur. Bu kayıtların bir kısmı; ilişkinin sona ermesi, intikam vb. sebeplerle kadının rızası olmaksızın, internet ağında yayınlanmaktadır.
Etek altı fotoğrafları ve videoları, birçok izleyicinin gizlice çekilen bu tür görüntüleri aradığı internete yüklemek için de çekilebilmektedir. Bu tür görüntüler fetiş ve pornografik web sitelerinde olduğu gibi, YouTube gibi video paylaşım sitelerinde de yaygındır.
Son zamanlarda, dijital kamera teknolojisinin yaygınlığı ve kullanımıyla paralel şekilde tüm dünyada artmıştır. Görüntülerin internete yüklemesinin kolaylaşması bu durumun artmasını etkilemiştir. Bu görüntüler için özel ve dışarıya kapalı siteler açılmış, çekilen görüntüler kullanıcılar arasında paylaşılmıştır. Görüntülerin büyük çoğunluğu, daha sonra herkesin erişimine açık sitelerde yayınlanmaktadır. Reşit olmayan küçük kız çocuklarının ve yüzü belirgin kişilerin görüntüleri büyük endişe yaratmıştır. Ünlüler de bu tür görüntülerin kurbanı olmuştur. Mahremiyet, çocuk istismarı ve kişilerin itibarıyla ilgili büyük tartışmalar günümüzde sürmektedir.
Bu görüntülerin çekilmesi, giderek artan bir şekilde röntgencilik ve pornografi olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Çekimi yapan kişilere göre oldukça masum olduğu halde, yayınlandığı web sitesinin doğası gereği; sapıkça ve iğrenç fantezilere meze olan kadınlara göre , aşağılayıcı bir durum ortaya çıkmaktadır. Mahremiyet ve kişisel gizlilik de çoğunlukla ihlal edilmektedir.
Bir kadın, mini etek ile merdiven çıkarken, arabadan inerken, otobüste ve parkta otururken vb. çeşitli durumlarda röntgencilik yapılabilmektedir. Genellikle ayakkabıya takılmış, gizlenmiş bir kamera tarafından etek altı görüntüleri çekilir. Çanta içinde kamera taşındığı da görülmüştür. Birçok teknik kullanarak, kadın tarafından farkedilmemeye çalışan röntgencilerin, kadının yüzü görülmeyecek biçimde görüntüleme ve yayınlamadan önce, kadının yüzüne sansür işlemi yaptıkları da görülmüştür.
Bu nedenle kadının, etek altı görüntüsünün çekildiği anda fark etmesi oldukça zordur. Sonrasında ise, görüntülerin yayınlandığı web sitelerinde, kendisini gerçekten fark etmesi çok nadirdir.
Birçok ülkede, kişisel gizliliği ve mahremiyeti; kamusal alanda koruyan yasalar bulunmamakla birlikte, yasal mevzuat ülkeden ülkeye önemli ölçüde değişkenlik göstermektedir. Bu nedenle bazı ülkelerde, çekim sırasında yakalanan röntgencilerin bir kısmı, taciz vakası olarak değerlendirilmiştir.
ABD, İngiltere, Rusya ve Japonya'da, bu tür görüntülerin çekilmesi konusunda herhangi bir yasak yoktur. Ayrıca Avustralya , Finlandiya ve Hindistan haricinde; bu tür görüntülerin çekimini engellemeye yönelik, ceza kanunu işleyen başka ülke de yoktur. Bazı ülkelerde kabahat olarak nitelendirilip, görüntülere el konulduktan sonra, para cezası uygulanmaktadır.
