Religion is an integral part of many people’s lives and to protect the right to practice and express their faith, churches often need to maintain a code of conduct that is specific to the congregation and yet still consistent with their shared beliefs. Ensuring that secrets, beliefs and rules are kept within the church’s membership is key to operating smoothly and ethically. Therefore, efficient and effective organizational strategies need to be implemented in order to ensure the church’s code of conduct remains secure. Here are 10 ways to organize a secret church’s code of conduct.


1. Designate a Primary and Relief Keeper of the Code: In order to ensure that the code of conduct is kept secure and accessible only within the membership of the church, a primary and relief keeper of the code should be identified. Both individuals can be responsible for the storage, maintenance, and updates of the code. 

2. Use Secure Online Storage: To ensure that the code of conduct is available only to church members, the code of conduct should be stored on a secure online platform that requires authentication. Aggregate platforms such as Box or Dropbox can be used to store the document and enable access to only those with the correct credentials.

3. Determine Permissible Sharing Parameters: Sharing is a core feature of many religious congregations and it is important to determine parameters as to what information can be shared within the church buildings and also outside of them. This will ensure that church members understand when the code should remain closed and when certain parts can be shared with others.

4. Conduct Regular Audits: Frequent audits should be conducted in order to ensure that the code is kept up to date and that its content continues to be relevant. This will also be an important step for the church in maintaining its legitimacy with regards to its code of conduct.
