How to Transform a REDLiNE into a REDLiNE XR

What is the Escort Redline XR? Escort does not actually manufacturer a detector by the name of the Escort Redline XR. The Escort Redline includes a feature that will enable you segment Ka-band, enabling you to turn off portions of the band that is not used by police. The result is that a segmented Escort Redline will scan faster, with fewer false alerts. Now the owner of retail website, RadarTest.com, decided that he could take advantage of the consumer to try to make an extra $100 off of each Escort Redline he sold by segmenting the Escort Redline himself (a simple procedure) and calling it the Redline XR. Is the Redline the Best ever made? Well that depends. The Escort Redline is based on Escort’s M3 dual antenna design allows the Escort Redline to be specifically tuned for receiving all X, K, and Ka bands. It also contributes to making it undetectable to all RDDs including the Spectre IV RDD . It is best suited for highway and rural use. Because of its stealth nature of the Escort Redline, we consider the Escort Redline as the best if you live and/or frequently drive in Virginia where detectors are illegal, or if you’re a professional driver. But, we also believe the Escort Redline is not well suited for driving in a city environment because of it’s reduced filtering capabilities and because it does not have an internal GPS or photo enforcement database. So if you drive both in the city and on the highway a better choice would the either the Escort Max 360 or the new Escort iX . Redline vs. Valentine One, which is better? In January of 2014 Car and Driver did a review of the Escort Max and the Valentine One and here is what they had to say about the V1: “ One annoyance is incessant false alarms—the Valentine’s filtering isn’t very effective. On our 22-mile loop, the V1 called out 53 threats in its most selective mode, which reduces but doesn’t eliminate X-band alerts. Turning off X-band is an involved process that you wouldn’t bother with on an interstate exit ramp. Determining what’s a cop and what’s not is left to the driver… ” Something else to consider is that the Valentine One is not stealth to the Spectre RDD, which is an important factor if you’re a professional driver and/or drive in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

This review is from: Escort RedLine Radar Detector (Electronics) Let me start off by saying I should have purchased this thing fifteen years ago! In that span of time I have received three speeding tickets, usually going 15 to 17 miles over the posted speed limit. I am seventy years old now so I have averaged about one ticket every five years. Don't get me wrong I am not a speeder, but living in California with police hiding behind every corner and at the bottom of most hills it's hard to not gain a little speed and get caught! All my tickets have occurred on freeways, or main arteries into or out of cities. Never on city streets. That's the main reason I purchased the Escort Redline. I needed some help with highway driving. I did not want to write a review till I tested this detector for at least four months. I am retired so I enjoy driving on long trips around California. Below I am listing the aspects of the Redline that please me the most. 1. I purchased the super sticky windshield mount with it, as many reviewers were not happy with the mount that came with the detector. I couldn't be happier. I mounted the Redline in the middle of my windshield below the rearview mirror about four or five inches up from the dashboard on my Toyota Corolla. It catches everything there, radar and laser! The unit has never fell down or come loose and wiggled around. I know in Calif. you are not suppose to mount objects there, but I have not had a problem so far and it's not easy to notice from outside the car. It's very easy to put on and take off while driving or not. I always remove it when parking my vehicle. 2. Now to radar detection. I have all the time in the world when the Calif. Highway Patrol or local police hit me with their Radar guns or moving Radar inside their vehicles. The signal usually stars off slowly on the bar graft and then gradually increases in strength and volume as you get closer to the source. In the past the police would always nab me while cresting over a hill or going down the hill where they would be waiting knowing my speed could increase very easily. Now my Redline goes off before I even get to the top of the hill. You can't beat that! 3. I did not grow up with all these new electronic gadgets people use these days in and out of their cars, so I despise having to navigate complicated menu's and/or settings. It drives me crazy! The Redline is so easy to use and navigate that a chimpanzee could do it. I'm not kidding. I do it while driving down the highway at 65 miles an hour. I disable X band and like to use the pilot setting with the moving dot scanning and flashing back and forth. Looks cool! I keep all the other settings pretty much at the default settings it shipped with. But it's fun to experiment with now and then. 4. Now to Laser. This is a entirely different animal. This is like getting sucker punched by a bully in High School. It's kind of over before you know or realize what just happened. The CHP or local police are not far away when they hit you with it and your detector lights up immediately like a Christmas tree and at what sounds like full volume. The voice states laser warning and then you see the officer almost immediately either standing next to his patrol car or parked sideways to the road with the window rolled down and him pointing the laser gun in your direction. Almost every time I have been hit with the laser he was hiding right around a corner, one time behind a tree! Really scary as it happens so fast. The six or seven times this has happen to me the hair on the back of my head and neck stood straight up. Each time I immediately looked down at my speedometer and saw I was not speeding, big relief as it's so sudden. I have never been hit by laser from behind or from a moving patrol vehicle. I think the latter is impossible with laser. I don't have a laser jammer but do have a laser shield on the front of my license plate. So far so good. Now for anyone who drives in the Los Angeles area, beware of the 5 freeway from the 405 interchange to about the 126 interchange near Valencia. Also the first ten miles or so after turning North on the 14 traveling towards Palmdale. I call this section "Laser Alley". Most of my laser hits come from here. You will get hit here!! No doubt in my mind. Most laser hits come near towns or cities not out on the open road. There they like to use the Radar. 4. Done very well on Ka band, but does not reasonably sensitively respond to K band fixed road side photo radar.
Used to avoid speed traps I installed the Redline with a mirror mount in my C6 and the forward location of the controls are perfectly placed to provide easy access.
Great product, has improved the safety of my driving greatly.
My redline is awesome!!!!! It works best on the highway but still works great around town... I live in salt Lake City utah where the cops are totally ridiculous !!! The cops here are tricky and scandalous, so when im in traffic and i get a laser or a Ka band alert i hit the brakes and ive gotten away 3 times sso far!!! Ive only had my redline for 1 month!!! GREAT PRODUCT!!!! COPS SUCK!!
