Accompany your friend or loved one to the departure gate
Air Canada found itself in hot water in June 2014 when an attendant left the famous violinist Itzhak Perlman and all of his baggage on a scooter at an elevator en route to Toronto Pearson International Airport's Passport Control area.
Southwest Airlines also made the headlines in August 2014 when 85-year-old Alice Vaticano missed her flight from Newark to Denver because a wheelchair attendant left her somewhere between the check-in counter and her departure gate.
While no one should ever be left alone by a wheelchair attendant, these cases highlight the benefits of getting an airport escort pass. In Alice Vaticano's case, a family member or friend could have accompanied her all the way to her gate by obtaining an escort pass from Southwest Airlines.
Itzhak Perlman, on the other hand, was completely dependent on his airport-provided attendant because he had not yet cleared Passport Control. Someone was waiting to meet him at the Passport Control exit, but that person could not get an escort pass to meet Perlman at his arrival gate because US customs regulations restrict access to arriving international passengers.
An escort pass is very similar to a boarding pass. An airline check-in agent can issue an escort pass to someone with a government-issued photo ID who wishes to accompany a minor child or a person with a disability, age-related or not, to a departure gate.
Airlines also issue escort passes to someone who needs to meet minor children or persons with disabilities at a domestic arrival gate. Escort pass holders must clear airport security and comply with the same regulations as an airline passenger.
Escort passes are not the solution to all gate-related problems, but they do allow family members to take their minor children, grandchildren, and relatives with mobility issues or disabilities to departure gates. Some airports and airlines will also issue escort passes that allow you to meet incoming passengers at their arrival gates.
Important : Escort passes are never issued for people meeting passengers on incoming international flights in the US, due to customs and immigration regulations.
Anyone taking a child , grandchild, or accompanying a relative or friend with a disability to a departing flight. may need one. If you are meeting someone who falls into one of these categories, you should consider requesting an escort pass. Note : Passengers arriving from another country will have to go through Customs and Immigration before you can meet them. An escort pass will not give you access to that part of the airport. If your loved one or friend needs assistance clearing Customs, consider arranging for a wheelchair attendant to meet him or her at the arrival gate.
It is usually easy to get an escort pass. Simply go with your relative or friend to the check-in counter, request a pass, and present your photo ID. You can call ahead to get escort pass information, but you will probably be told that issuance of escort passes is determined locally by each airline.
Your escort pass will allow you to go through airport security screening with your loved one or friend and accompany that person to the departure gate.
If you are picking someone up from a domestic flight, you will need to go through the airport security checkpoint before meeting that person at the arrival gate.
You will not be able to go into the Customs and Immigration hall if you are picking up a passenger who is arriving from another country.
You may not be able to get an escort pass when you get to the airport. Plan ahead for this possibility:

The Escort PASSPORT Max brings the world’s first ever High Definition (HD) Radar Performance for the New Zealand driving environment. All New Zealand radar and laser bands are covered, and it processes threats faster than anything else available and it has GPS awareness, so it remembers false alerts.
Fastest Response and Pinpoint Accuracy
A new design in the receiver incorporates Digital Signal Processing (DSP), an advanced military technology. This unique method of scanning enables the PASSPORT Max to identify real threats faster and more accurately than
anything else before it. Quicker response time means you have more warning and can adjust your speed accordingly quicker.
In addition to providing a lightning fast response, the PASSPORT Max also looks for a signature or the DNA of the signal and sorts out the real threats from a myriad of other signals with precision. The result is a quiet experience in a world of noise.
Multi Colour OLED Display
See everything clearly, quickly and easily at a glance, and you can change the backlight to match your car interior electronics.
High-Performance Laser Alert
PASSPORT Max’s multiple high-performance laser sensors provide maximum laser warning, with superior off-axis protection. For the ultimate in laser protection, talk to us about further options
GPS Powered
Variable Speed Sensitivity – On Demand Performance
Our patented GPS technology allows the detector to provide alerts based on what the vehicle is actually doing. At highway speeds, you need the best long-range sensitivity you can get. At slower speeds, the sensitivity can be adjusted to further reduce unneeded alerts, especially when you’re not at risk. We’ve even changed the actual alert to a short double-tone when your vehicle is moving less than 20 mph.
AutoLearn: Artificial Intelligence Protection
The AutoLearn technology uses GPS and the exact frequency to learn and automatically reject unwanted door openers and other fixed position false alarms. The result is the most accurate long-range protection in the industry and a permanent solution to false alarms.
DEFENDER® Database
Speed traps and camera locations are everywhere! You can add your own “hot spots” using our exclusive Mark Location feature. After you load a new Camera Site into the PASSPORT Max as you approach these locations in the future, the MAX will alert you in advance.
Web Ready
Future updates will be available via the ESCORT website under the AUNZ Section in 2014.

Crystal-Clear Voice Alerts
PASSPORT’s unique voice alerts provide clear communications for alerts and menu options. You don’t need to look at the display, it will TELL you what you need to know.

“Passport uses a new type of digital signal processing (DSP), which can reduce false alarms from some non-police-radar sources. Think of DSP as a pair of Bose noise-canceling headphones for radar reporting. By reliably identifying noise, the Max can focus on real police-radar threats, leading to faster and more accurate warnings.” - Car and Driver Magazine
“One annoyance is incessant false alarms—the Valentine’s filtering isn’t very effective. On our 22-mile loop, the V1 called out 53 threats in its most selective mode, which reduces but doesn’t eliminate X-band alerts. Turning off X-band is an involved process that you wouldn’t bother with on an interstate exit ramp. Determining what’s a cop and what’s not is left to the driver…”

When Escort Passport Max was released more than five years ago, it promised never before seen technology from the Escort line. It should, especially when considering its retail price. But now that the company has newer radar detectors on its arsenal that have similar technologies such as Digital Signal Processing, AutoLearn Technology, and connectivity to Escort Live, is it still worth the price (which did not change as much as one would want)?
Let’s find out by looking at its design and features, and how these contribute positively or otherwise to the Escort Passport Max’s performance.
When it comes to design, one of the things that come off as different from the Escort Passport Max was its new Sticky Cup suction mount. This is not an advantage though—in fact, there have been complaints about its reliability. How it holds on to the glass is not the problem, because it does so strongly. It is when the radar detector is on it that it poses a problem. The adhesive material looks rather cheap and flimsy to support the Passport Max which is heavier than older models.
The weight of the Escort Passport Max is also another strike against it, although it is a very minor one. It is not as compact as Escort would like it to be at 1.3” x 3.2” x 5.3”, and that works against the less than a robust mount. It does, however, position sensors and indicators rather nicely.
The buttons, which you’ll find using the most such as mute, volume, sensitivity, power and brightness, are on top. There is also a connector for the SmartCord, which is convenient so that you don’t have to reach the radar detector for functions like muting, as well as a mini-USB port and a jack for your headphones.
The Passport Max comes with a full-color OLED display. Despite its power-saving capabilities, and the option to adjust the color as well as brightness, it suffers from being washed out by sunlight. This complaint is not exclusive to the Passport Max as all other Escort models with OLED instead of LED have the same problem.
Forcing your eyes to squint to read off of the display is very inconvenient when you’re trying to concentrate on the road, which is where audio alerts should come in handy. The Escort Passport Max, however, is also wanting in this respect. The sounds can easily be drowned by external noise.
