THE PLEASURES AND PITFALLS OF BEING AN EROTIC ROMANCE WRITER: Talking with the owner of Red Hot Romance Publishing
On this episode of the Erotic Reading Room, I sit down with USA Today bestselling author Maren Smith, owner of Red Hot Romance Publishing, and her marketing director, USA Today bestselling author Rayanna Jamison to talk about the ins-and-outs of publishing and why authors need to be careful when selecting a publisher. It’s a particularly important lesson given that Maren and I were among the authors quoted in a recent New York Times expose on our former publisher Blushing Books that spotlights how things can go sideways if you put your trust in the wrong company. We also talk about the changes in the erotic romance genre, which has become more inclusive as authors write storylines featuring characters with more realistic body images, older characters (my upcoming book Finally Daddy features characters over age forty), and LGBTQ characters. We discuss the success of both the company’s Dirty Daddies Anthology as well as the overwhelmingly positive reception of the Dirty Daddies Pride edition featuring gay and lesbian daddies. Here are the links for everything we talked about in the shows. Please click them. THE (POSSIBLY) MOST DEPRAVED EROTICA AUTHOR EVER: The Marquis De Sade
Erotica is nothing new. Neither is scandal. But you'd be hard-pressed to find an author to compare to the one I'm spotlighting in this episode who did awful things in and out of books. The Marquis de Sade was a libertine and a madman. He wrote books that still shock the sensibilities even today, books that would be banned from Amazon if we wrote adapted his style to modern times. So who was he? What was he like? How did he become one of the most famous and notorious authors whose name is synonymous with pain? And why is his work still available when modern authors sometimes find themselves censored? Sources for this podcast include: Smithsonian magazine's article, "Who Was the Marquis De Sade?https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/who-was-marquis-de-sade-180953980/ The Guardian's "The Most Impure Tale Ever Written" https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/oct/07/marquis-de-sade-120-days-of-sodom-published-classic The New Yorker's At Home with the Marquis de Sade https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1998/10/12/at-home-with-the-marquis-de-sade I also want to include a link to K. Webster's "The Wild," which was banned on Amazon. If deSade's books are still available there, I feel like she needs a shout-out. https://www.authorkwebster.com/product/the-wild/ I'd also like to recognize author Olivia Fox, whose excerpt from her latest book, Daddy's Sweet Ride, appears at the end of this eposide. Reading and Writing Through the Pandemic PART TWO: Author survival strategies with Heather Roberts
Welcome to Part II of Reading and Writing Through the Pandemic, a special episode of the Erotic Reading Room that addresses the impact Covid-19 is having on readers and writers. In Part I, we discussed the mental health impact with licensed therapist Anne Leggett, owner of Compass Point Therapy. In Part II, I’m talking the business impact on the romance genre with Heather Roberts, owner of L. Woods PR. This is a fascinating discussion you don’t want to miss. This pandemic has changed everything. It’s impacted our budget, our work productivity, and our strategies for buying and selling books. Heather provides tips on navigating the upheaval to our professional lives, and provides tips on how to stay competitive even when everything is turned upside down, even if we can’t afford ad spend. We also talk about what the pandemic may mean long term. Will it change how we sell books, or even what we read and write? For authors considering professional services, L. Woods offers not just full-time professional guidance, but a la carte for those of us who have to watch our budgets. You can find here here: https://www.ellewoodspr.com One of my favorite parts of this podcast was discussing how the pandemic may shape our image of heroes and heroism. I only wish I’d found this article before I talked to Heather, because guess who’s emerged as a sex symbol in erotic fan fic? Yeah, that’s right. Dr. Fauci. Smart men as book boyfriends? Yes, please. https://www.cnet.com/news/dr-anthony-fauci-nominated-for-people-magazine-sexiest-man-alive-as-fauci-merch-abounds/ And because this is a genre-driven podcast, I didn’t want to conclude the episode without spotlighting an author, so Part II concludes with an excerpt from a book you’ll want to add to your lockdown reading list – Bulletproof Butterfly by Anna Brooks. The book is available in KU here: https://www.amazon.com/Bulletproof-Butterfly-Anna-Brooks-ebook/dp/B077G9BKJP --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/avasinclair/support
Reading and Writing Through the Pandemic PART ONE: Our Mental Health
This is a different kind of episode of the Erotic Reading Room. We’re taking a break from exploring genres to discuss what’s weighing on all of us – the pandemic. This is the first of a two-part episode on how Covid-19 is impacting authors and readers in the erotic romance community. For this portion, we’ll be exploring mental health with Anne Leggett, a Virginia- licensed mental health therapist who runs Compass Pointe Therapy specializing in individual and family therapy via online sessions. You can find her at https://www.compasspointetherapy.com For national therapy resources, go here: https://mhanational.org/ The struggle is real now. Depression is real. WHO’S YOUR DADDY: Daddy Dom romance with author Dani Wyatt
On this episode of the Erotic Reading Room, I'm talking Daddy romance and Daddy kink with Dani Wyatt, author of the bestselling book, Yes, Daddy. Daddy Romance is a hot subgenre, but it's also sometimes misunderstood. Spoiler altert: Daddy Romance has nothing to do with incest or pedophilia. It has everything to do with hot, caring dominants whose erotic appeal is due in part to a balance of control and nurturing. As a Daddy romance author myself, it was a real treat to talk to Dani Wyatt, who brings a personal insight to the discussion. Great concept for a podcast. There’s more to erotic romance than Fifty Shades of Gray. If you’re interested in other sub genres or kink in general, this is a really good addition to your podcast queue.
I am loving this podcast. It is great listening to women talk about sex in such a positive and open way.
Not only is Ava Sinclair’s podcast sexy, it’s super intelligent from a writer’s perspective and so much fun. I’m looking forward to the next episode. This takes my morning commute to a whole new level!

You’ll find me, most of the time, reading short stories or novellas. They’re perfect for a quick read when you have a little bit of time to do something you enjoy. When you need a break from your daily life problems. And erotic short stories? They are even better. Stay for the fun, the steam, and the kink.
If you are into everything I’ve been saying, this list is quite perfect for you. I promise you won’t be able to stop reading these stories until you are done with the last page. Let’s take a look at 15 of the best erotic short stories you need to read right now. (You can also find more here !)
Who doesn’t love a good roommates romance? Meka James is the master of short erotic goodness, and Being Hospitable is just what the doctor offered.
Kiki Jenkins is doing her best friend a favor by opening her home to his younger sister. She never expected the younger sister to become a temptation! Charley wants to be seen as more than her brother’s little sister…especially by Kiki Jenkins.
An all-time favorite book and one of the winners of The Ripped Bodice Award for Excellence in Romance Fiction , this little novella is simply wonderful.
Navaya and Xander have been friends since they were babies. When Navaya proposes to Xander they have a little sexy fun between the sheets so she finally gets some inspiration for her erotic novels, Xander gets a little bit confused. I mean, he has never looked at her in that light and neither has she. But when a magical second kiss lights up their insides, this whole thing changes immediately.
Katee Robert has become one of my favorite authors to one-click. A new book by her just dropped? Let me just get…that…quickly. And this series is something I can never get enough of.
Lily found out her fiancé cheated on her, so what does she do? She tries to seduce her former father-in-law! Yup, you heard that right. Lily has one weekend to get her revenge, but maybe one weekend isn’t enough time, because now everything is feeling way too real between her and Shane.
I love this short story so very much. And it also has a sequel, Midnight Stroke , which probably is way sexier than this one! Both are incredible and so enjoyable you won’t be able to stop reading.
Harper and Trent have a tradition: They only see each other on their birthdays. And only to have a sexy wild night together. But this year, Trent is ready to take that next step and finally ask Harper to have a date with him, so what’s gonna happen? You’ll have to read and find out!
Chencia Higgins writes some of the best erotic stories, and you aren’t ready to meet Rhone and Malina.
Malina split with her boyfriend, and though she thought it was a very amicable split, she later is told by Blaine, her ex, that her brain wasn’t up to Harvard-level standards. She wants him to eat his words, so she is determined to get that degree. Lucky for her, it doesn’t take long to find a professor on the popular website, JustOneNight.com.
The whole So Over the Holidays series could fit in this category. They all are erotic romance novellas set over some holidays. I’m going to be highlighting the newest one, Party Favors , which is set over New Year’s!
Online friends meet for the first time at a New Year’s Eve ball. Amanda is tired of doing what’s expected of her. She also doesn’t want to go to her mother’s ball with a date her mother picked herself. So she decides to invite her online friend Wren instead, but they didn’t expect the spark of attraction they would feel when they met face-to-face.
Celeste has no plans for the holidays, so she decides to spend her break with her roommate and her roommate’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Yu look like the typical suburban couple, but Celeste is lusting after them hard. Her mind is going places she doesn’t know if she can make real, but you bet she’s going to try.
A smutty historical romance novella you need in your life. If possible, right now.
The Fentons have it all: wealth, position, and a union that the ton believes is the most perfect of all. But what the ton doesn’t know is that their smiles hide a marriage that is broken by pretense. When artist Mr. Clayton Irving asks Lady Susanna to paint her for one of his sensual portraits, maybe the Fenton union can be saved after all. And maybe three is better than two.
It’s Santa’s big night. He is not only delivering gifts, though. Traveling around the globe, he takes his time to deliver meaningful gifts to people, estranged spouses, or even matching up unrequited loves. Santa is here for every single person.
But he is definitely having some fun first. In each chapter, you meet new characters who Santa is visiting.
A fun Halloween erotic novella! Shae Sanders continues to enchant me with everything she publishes.
Trick is about Denard and Tyra going on a first date…that goes terribly wrong. But maybe that was the plan all along?
When you are so fed up with your boss and your workplace, what do you do? You walk out. You quit! Fate has other plans for her, though, because now she’s stuck in her house with her ex-boss. All because of the bad weather.
The forced proximity forces them to be true to each other. They realize that all of these misunderstandings can be solved really easily…
