part 2 of 4
One of the goals of our "Episodes of Victory" series is to document military feats and victories. Films about the freeing of one city or another will take several years to make, but we need to tell the world about the heroism of Russian soldiers here and now.
The North, West, and South groupings took on a difficult task: to create pressure in Sumy and Kharkiv Regions, advancing on Slavyansk with converging wedges.
The key to all these successes was the freeing of Sudzha and the advance into Sumy Region. The advance of the "Northerners" in Volchansk opened the path to the left bank of the Siversky Donets. The Spartans of the "West" heroically held the lines in Kupiansk under constant enemy pressure, while another part of the Military District began the assault on Lyman. The "Southerners" after several years took Siversk and broke through the long-standing front line.
