Epic Games 'definitely Won't' Follow Minecraft NFT Ban

Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says his firm "definitely will not" follow Minecraft developers in banning nonfungible tokens (NFTs).

As previously reported, Mojang Studios, Minecraft developers, has halted NFT integrations Wednesday because it believes NFTs are speculative and a high risk of exclusion, and fraud are against the game's fundamentals.

While the NFT community was extremely opposed to the move, the crypto-skeptic gamers were overwhelmingly supportive.

The company of Sweeney is the one behind the development of the highly successful battle royale game Fortnite, which is also thought of as a Metaverse platform. Although Epic Games isn't necessarily pro-crypto or NFTs, the CEO has said the company doesn't intend to impose any opinions regarding the subject to its players:

Developers should be free to create their own games, and you can decide whether or not you want to play them. I don't think that stores or operating system developers should force their views on other people. We won't.

In response to the post, Twitter user Low5ive asked Sweeney if Epic Games' policy on prohibiting "hateful/discriminatory content" differs from this. Sweeney replied that Epic Games makes "editorial" judgments, however NFTs do not currently fall under their remit.

He said that a store cannot make any such decisions, and could only accept any legal game draw a line at accepted norms , as we do, or even accept games that align with the owner's personal beliefs.

Fake it till you make it

Mojang Studios' NFT ban has been a major blow to NFT Worlds, a project that is based on Minecraft's open-source servers, with a major issue.

The community-driven play-to earn (P2E) platform is home to an entire ecosystem of crypto and NFT built around it with its NFTs earning 51,000 Ether (ETH) which is $80.8 million worth of trading volume at the time of writing. However, its NFT floor price has slid from 3.33 ETH down to 1.01 ETH since the news dropped. Meanwhile, its native token WRLD dropped 55% during the same time frame.

The NFT Worlds team said that they are currently "brainstorming" solutions to the Mojang announcement. The team also said that it is trying to get in contact with Minecraft to see if a possible solution is possible. In the event of a solution the team suggested a switch to the GameFi platform or a similar to Minecraft game engine.
