Epic Games Store "definitely won't" Restrict Games with NFTs

Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games, says that Epic Games' founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says that the Epic Games store "definitely won't" restrict the sale of games which contain NFTs. Sweeney's comments follow an announcement from Minecraft developer Mojang, which outlined its stance not to permit blockchain technologies or NFTs to be used in Minecraft.

One user contacted Sweeney via Twitter to inquire if Epic Games would adopt a similar approach to Mojang. However, Sweeney replied in the negative.

He believes that developers should be able to decide how to build their games and that you can decide whether or not to play them. "I believe stores and operating system developers should not impose their ideas on other people. We shouldn't.

Another user responded to Sweeney's comments asking what the difference is from the Epic Games policy that prohibits the use of hateful and discriminatory content. Sweeney explained that this was due to "editorial and branding judgments" and that Epic has decided to "draw the line at mainstream acceptable norms."

Some users on the PC gaming subreddit have expressed displeasure with Sweeney's position, pointing out that the Epic CEO has previously spoken out against NFTs. Sweeney shared a public copy of his September 2021 email response in a tweet reply. The message stated that "We aren't tackling NFTs since the entire field is caught in a complex mix of scams , interesting decentralised tech foundations as well as scams."

Sweeney now says that he believes that Epic Game store developers should have the option to pursue integrations with Epic Game Store but he's not clear about. In an update tweet that "Crypto is complicated.
