English Cologne group, channel, website?! πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

English Cologne

Some recent changes made to the English Cologne group might not be crystal clear for group members, so here are a few details on how the group can be found and what the new pinned posts from "English Cologne" are all about.

Location discovery

The English Cologne group is a geo-group, which means that it can be found in Telegram by people who are physically in Cologne and use Telegram's find people nearby feature, which also shows a few nearby local groups.

Linked discovery

The group is also linked to on the English Cologne blog and elsewhere, so can be discovered by people visiting other English Cologne pages on the web.

That's how people might find and join the group, but what about these pinned posts in the group made by "English Cologne"?

English Cologne Telegram channel

There is also an English Cologne Telegram channel. Channels are different to groups.

Simply put; people can subscribe to receive channel updates. Those channel updates are made by "English Cologne".

Recently Telegram introduced comments for channels, which use a linked group to "host" comments.

Rather than setting up a comment group for the channel I linked the English Cologne group to host comments for the English Cologne channel.

TL:DR

Posts are made to the English Cologne channel.

Like this post, which is pictured above.

Posts are automatically forwarded to and pinned in the English Cologne group.

For group members the fact that the pinned post has been forwarded from the channel might no be clear.

Note how Alex posted "Great picture" shortly after the post appeared in the group. Then Martin replied "Enjoy it πŸ‘" and O W posted "Enjoy this lovely autumn day πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜Š".

When people click to comment on the channel post they are taken to a comment space that shows Martin's comment.

In the group though Martin's comment is shown as a reply to the pinned post.

The group posts made by Alex and OW are not shown as comments, because strictly speaking they were not replies, even though the post may have been in made in response to the forwarded channel post.

So if you want to comment on a channel post; either go to the post and tap through to comment on the post or reply to the forwarded / pinned post in the group.

I'm sure that in time it will become obvious to everyone, but in the mean time I hope that this explanation helps clear up any confusion.

p.s. New members please read the group rules before posting.
