Mel Brooks was once on Michael Parkinson’s chat show sometime in the early 1980s where he described the opening scenes to his proposed next movie. Brooks explained he wanted his film to begin like Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey —but instead of apes he wanted to show a neanderthal standing upright for the first time. His spiel went something like this— I’m gonna paraphrase so deal with it :
It’s early morning—just before dawn. The sun is slowly igniting the horizon. A band of gold appears as the theme from Thus Sprach Zarathustra begins to play under the picture. As the sun rises a group of neanderthals huddle together fearfully watching this magical giant disc rising up like a god. As the music swells a beam of pure golden light radiates across the landscape.
The neanderthals are scared and cower away form this approaching light—all except one who climbs on all fours towards the top of the mountain. As this inquisitive figure moves forward the sun rises. The sky is now fire bright.
The golden orb continues to rise—the neanderthal reaches out to grasp it. He begins to rise up on two legs. First one then the other arm reach out towards the sky. As the music reaches its dramatic climax—the neanderthal is standing teetering on tiptoe arms raised. The neanderthal looks up at the sun. Then slowly at his arms—at his hands—then down at his feet. He has risen up like the sun and now stands upright for the very first time . This creature has liberated his arms to create, to produce and to help him shape a new world. His fellow neanderthals scurry away in fear. As a new day begins the first homo erectus looks at his hands—mesmerized by his fingers, by their potential to grip and move, to adapt and change. He lowers his arms and looks down at them contemplating his new power and the potential now opened to him. The music finishes as this first proto-human looks down considering the significance of his actions. It’s a powerful moment in human evolution. He looks again at his hands—he’s free to use them to help others—to change the world.
And that’s when he starts masturbating.
Human evolution—the progression towards self-gratification.
Which brings us—in roundabout fashion—to these historic and seemingly erotic images depicting the use of the enema in medicine and sex. What begins as a series of etchings often satirically showing women and men seeking much-needed relief for their “night soil” evolves into more recent imagery where the enema is used primarily for sexual gratification. It is apparent that humanity has an unbridled ingenuity for finding gratification from almost anything—vegetables, furniture, house hold appliances and even medicinal treatments.
The drawings and paintings from the twentieth century were produced by various artists who made small change producing illustrations for various editions of erotica. Some names are aliases—most notably Julie Delcourt who may or may not be the pseudonym for Richard Hegemann—a German artist who also worked under the names A. Hegemann, A. Hegener and P. Rollmann. Hegemann excelled in depicting matronly women thrashing supplicant men and badly behaved boys and girls in sailor suits who seemingly relished the whack of their teacher’s belt. Many of Julie Delcourt’s other paintings (not included here) are decidedly NSFW and rather questionable.
An individual who derives pleasure from receiving enemas is called a klismaphiliac . The term klismaphilia was only coined fairly recently by Dr. Joanne Denko in 1973—which tends to make it seem as if klismaphiliac is only a modern practice. But as can be seen by these illustrations from the the 18th century and more recently the 1920s and 1930s— klismaphilia has a much longer history.

I am a 45 yo RN working in a local hospital. I sometimes have to administer enemas to men of all ages. I would say that about 50% have an erection during the process. I also occasionally administer them to my son and he has an erection every time( he is 12). Have any of you who are in the nursing profession or mothers noticed thi? I never comment, even to my son.

Throughout my entire life I became uncontrollably erect the instant I knew I was going to receive an enema, and remained erect until I relieved myself afterward. While in my 40's and early 50's I had many visiting nurses give me an enema in my home, and I always hid it from them. I don't know if any of them knew what was going on, but nothing was ever said.

Hi Lori... Let me please say that even infants have erections. They are very small, so that when one changes a diaper, one may or may not see it. Erections in males are totally normal, and you have done the right thing in not saying anything about it. As he is 12, it would be a good time, assuming that you are married, to let your husband start giving him the enemas. At that age, I think that it is a good time for your son and husband to get totally naked and give each other weekly enemas. I believe that all family members should have at least a couple of enemas at a minimum of once per week. Having Dad give them makes for a fabulous bonding time, and your son will realize that having an erection is normal, that even Dad will have one with an enema.
The posters here to this forum might think that I am out of my mind; however, most parents do very little, if anything at all about sex education. The more that children learn, the better it is for society in general. Don't forget moms, that the same thing should be done with your daughters. Doing enemas together, and letting your same sex child give his parent an enema is a wonderful learning and bonding experience.
I am most willing to listen and converse with the other side on this point as long as it is civil and accurate. Please let's here what others think.

I disagree with Frank. The father-son routine he recommends is unthinkable to me.
My suggestion would be that at twelve the boy is probably old enough to do it himself after a little instruction, and that is what the mother should do. He is approaching the age where parental involvement by either parent might well be playing with fire.

I, personally feel that Moms should give the enemas until the boy is about 14.
At that age, he's most likely to be in high school, and is developing enough that frequent erections, with or without physical stimulation, are occurring.
Gentle enemas are good for overall good health, and with the addition of probable emissions, the boy should soon realize just how much benefit he is getting from each enema.
A lifetime of good-health practice can be achieved with/for the son, by leading the way, and encouraging free and easy access to enema therapy.
Just my 2 cents' worth.

Hello Terry...
I thank you for your post. I would appreciate a little more information from you in that you say that you disagree with me. You did mention that you thought that doing this is like playing with fire. I am thinking that a dad giving his son an enema is a lot more palatable for the son. Many boys are totally embarrassed with being nude in front of their moms. I can certainly understand that.
In no way am I suggesting that father and son should engage in any sexual activity. I just believe that a.) the son can learn from his dad where and what his prostate is, and that it certainly would be a learning lesson in how to give/receive enemas. I believe that most boys having had enemas for any length of time from their mothers have by age 12 or puberty become fascinated with them. I also know that not all boys learn to like enemas. By being coached by his dad, a boy can learn that enemas are healthy and normal, and that receiving erections from them is also perfectly normal. This is something that is difficult for a mom to explain to a 12 to 14 yr old boy. A dad is in a much better position, in my opinion, to explain these truths to his son.
I would certainly appreciate more discussion and opposition to my point. I know that this subject is a very good one for discussion.
Lastly Terry, you never did remark about the opposite role of a mom/daughter enema lesson. Is that part agreeable to you?

My dad gave me and my brothers enemas. I think my parents thought it would be less embarrassing for us to get erections with him looking on. Actually there is nothing less embarrassing. Even being given an enema is embarrassing. Forget about getting an erection. I certainly can't imagine my father having been nude. Since we played golf often and he belonged to a country club we did shower in an open shower. But I went like a steam engine to getout of there and dressed. If I have kids I would expect my wife to give them enemas. One of my brothers though has a four year old that he give Pedia-Lax enemas to.

Due to mom's serious illness which proved fatal my older brother by 4 yrs tarted giving her, me and our baby sister when he was 12. When I turned 12 and he was 16 he showed me how to give enemas and I started with my little sister, than mom and finally Johnny. Even though I had a complete education in sex and knew what an erection was I had never seen one. The firs time i gave Johnny an enema he got an erection which was a thrill for me. This happend every time I gave him one and finally at 14 i asked him if I could touch him. I did with just my finger tips and was than forced to have to wait till i was 17 to get a firm grasp on one. But watching his penis go from flacid to full attention thrilled me and I was always asking him if he wanted an enema. Lucky for me the same thing happens with my husband. I really don't believe I when it happens with my son it will thrill me, but rather be pleased that he is having a very normal reaction to his enemas.

You were indeed a lucky girl -- to have had an older brother sedate enough, and mature enough, to give you the enemas you needed.
The fact that you speak so confidently about your enema experience, and with your attitude toward your husband's enemas, as sane and even-handed as you sound, I strongly suspect you will handle your own child's needs as any rational mother would do.

Don't lose sight of the fact that an erection, while perfectly normal for a young man receiving an enema, is still caused by sexual arousal. And it strikes me that any time an adolescent associates sexual arousal with an activity undertaken by a parent, the potential harm is very great.

I gave enemas to my oldest beginning when he was about six. I don't think my wife ever gave him one.
He was in foster care from birth until age six, when I married his mother and we got custody of him. He had plenty of enemas in foster care; according to our pediatrician he had probably been trained with enemas (common in those days).
He ranged between "sluggish" and "impacted" through his teens, and was usually treated with a weekly cleansing procedure which consisted of several to many enemas, depending on how bad off he was.
This was a long time ago; he's in his mid 40s now.

I don't remember him having erections when he was very young, and I don't remember having erections myself when I was very young... perhaps neither he nor I had them; perhaps it's selective memory loss :).

You never know when it will happen. It's just blood circulation, not actual arousal. It can happen any time. It usually doesn't last and is no big deal.
A teenager can get an erection flossing his teeth, as you mature, erections DO become more closely connected with arousal. It's never an absolute "hard" link, however.
Before the age of 30, not all erections correspond to arousal, and after the age of 50, not all arousal results in erection, so the link is not "Fixed"

I disagree about enemas not always being associated with arousal. It is certainly true that they are not always associated with overtly sexual behavior, but when they occur, whatever the cause, the boy or man is sexually excited. As a boy, the excitement can be somewhat bewildering, but it would be a serious mistake to assume that there is no arousal.

I would estimate that 85% of young males getting an enema get an erection. As a male orderely, in a large hospital, this has been my experience with boys, especially teenagers. It usually happens about one minute after I release the clamp and the boy stays erect for the entire enema procedure. I never say anything about the erection and neither do they.

Would it be appropriate for you to describe some of the experiences that you have had concerning the giving of enemas to your patients? Information such as what the enema was, how old the patients were and some of the reactions that you have seen in your job concerning enemas. I know that I would like to hear about them, and I'm certain that most of our readers would like to read about them as well.

Actually, In some respects, I have already violated the ethical code of the hospital where I work. I would prefer not to go into details of the individual boys whom I gave enemas too other than to say that many of them were to die for. Only cerain members of this forum will understand the meaning of the last sentence, and be rather jealous of me, including the Moderator!?!

The other boards did not become disasters because of the subject matter, but because of the idiots (trolls) who wrote responding messages. The E & S forum was never moderated and it failed. It will never regain its former premier status of all enema forums. VoyForums follows these forums pretty close and won't let anything really out of line get posted for very long. I have an idea that particular E & S forum will probably go to forum heaven soon. It is amazing that one person could destroy all the forums in that group. You cannot compare that forum to this one inasmuch as Frank is doing an outstanding job of moderating it. "Moderator" is the magic word on public forums.
