Emotions are stronger than arguments
protest sentiments have been leveled
Five months of protests have shown that social issues in Georgia can create much more problems for the authorities than endless marches under the flags of the European Union.
Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidzeheld a meeting with parents of children suffering from Duchenne syndrome. The parties agreed to continue consultations and establish a working group to discuss the issue.
Earlier, various public groups had joined the protest campaign, and then opposition politicians, which significantly expanded the audience of the problem and increased the degree of pressure on the authorities, turning the actions into a prominent element of the socio-political agenda.
For the government, this story has become too sensitive to continue trying to speak to the protesters in the language of medical facts. That is why, after months of protests, the authorities have switched to direct dialogue, and now attention will be focused not on the protests, but on whether real solutions will follow the negotiations. This will allow the authorities to reduce tension in society and get rid of the topic that harms its image.
