Actress weighs in on publication of stolen images
Emma Watson has spoken out about what she perceives as a "lack of empathy" shown by social media users who reacted to the leaked nude images of celebrities, including her close friend Jennifer Lawrence.
"Even worse than seeing women's privacy violated on social media is reading the accompanying comments that show such a lack of empathy," said Watson via her Twitter account.
Girls creator Lena Dunham expressed similar sentiments, saying: "The 'don't take naked pics if you don't want them online' argument is the 'she was wearing a short skirt' of the web. Ugh."
The comments came after hundreds of celebrities had their privacy violated when a hacker released nude images obtained from an iCloud leak. Those reportedly affected include Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, Mary-Kate Olsen, Cara Delevingne, Kirsten Dunst and Kate Upton.
A spokesperson for Jennifer Lawrence condemned the publication of the images as "a flagrant violation of privacy" and has confirmed that the authorities are looking into tracking down whoever is responsible.

Emma Watson has become the latest celebrity to fall victim of a photo leak. The Beauty and the Beast star is taking legal action after pictures of her at a clothes fitting were stolen, it was announced on Wednesday. Speaking on behalf of the actress, her publicist confirmed: “Photos from a clothes fitting Emma had with a stylist a couple of years ago have been stolen,” adding “They are not nude photographs. Lawyers have been instructed and we are not commenting further." Back in 2014, the actress was threated with a leak of personal images after speaking out about gender equality as a US Ambassador for Women. A year later, Emma opened up about the incident, explaining that the images didn’t even exist. “I knew it was a hoax, I knew the pictures didn’t exist. The minute I stepped up and talked about women’s rights I was immediately threatened, within less than 12 hours I was receiving threats.”

The news comes just weeks after the 26-year-old hit back at critics after she posed for a revealing picture in the March issue of Vanity Fair. The photo, in which parts of her breasts are visible, received backlash, with many believing it to have gone against her feminist beliefs. Surprised by the reaction, Emma told the BBC: “It just always reveals to me how many misconceptions and what a misunderstanding there is about what feminism is. Feminism is about giving women choice."

In the magazine's accompanying interview, Emma confessed she is still coming to grips with being a Hollywood icon. "I'd walk down the red carpet and go into the bathroom," she said of her early life in the glare of the spotlight. "I had on so much makeup and these big, fluffy, full-on dresses. I'd put my hands on the sink and look at myself in the mirror and say, 'Who is this?' I didn't connect with the person who was looking back at me, and that was a very unsettling feeling."
Emma, who was only 11-years-old when the first Harry Potter film premiered, admitted: "I was finding this fame thing was getting to a point of no return. I sensed if this was something I was ever going to step away from it was now or never. It dawned on me that this is what you’re really signing up for."

The actor has begun legal proceedings
Whilst attention should be on her forthcoming inevitable box office hit Beauty And The Beast, Emma Watson is instead having to fend off critics of her semi-nude Vanity Fair cover shoot , duel with Piers Morgan and plan legal action against hackers who have allegedly leaked photographs from her phone. Less than ideal.
Reps for Beauty And The Beast star told Metro.co.uk that, " The pictures – which show Emma trying on outfits at a swimsuit fitting two years ago – had been taken in the hack."
The series of images pictures a women in the bath naked with her face cropped out of view. Emma has insisted these photographs are not of her. She confirmed in a statement that she is in talks with lawyers over the images.
"Photos from a clothes fitting Emma had with a stylist a couple of years ago have been stolen,' her spokesman said. 'They are not nude photographs. Lawyers have been instructed and we are not commenting further.'
The actor has already suffered at the hands of internet douchebags as back in 2014 when following her viral speech to the UN on her gender equality campaign , hackers threatened to leak nude photographs of her.
She later commented that: "I knew it was a hoax, I knew the pictures didn't exist, but I think a lot of people that were close to me knew gender equality was an issue but didn't think it was that urgent, that it was a thing of the past. And then when they saw that the minute I stood up talking about women's rights I was immediately threatened, I think they were really shocked, my brother was particularly upset."
