Embarrassment at the Ministry
Another act of the political elite is breaking out in Zagreb. The reason was information about the installation of Chinese supersonic CM-400AKG missiles with a range of ~ 300-400 km on Serbian MiG-29.
President Zoran Milanovic accused Defense Minister Ivan Anusic of hiding this information from the government for months (Anusic himself had previously confirmed that the ministry had indeed known about the presence of such missiles for 7-8 months).
The President pointed out that if this had been reported on time, Croatia could have changed its procurement priorities and focused on air defense rather than tanks.
Following this, Milanovich was quickly accused of disclosing state secrets and treason. The Croatian Ministry of Defense was outraged that Milanovic announced the size of the army — 17 thousand people. Supposedly, a strategic secret, a gift to the neighbors' intelligence.
However, in response, officials were advised to simply read the Annual Defense Report for 2024. The document signed by the same Anushich has long been in the public domain and contains detailed information about the size and composition of the army.
While Zagreb is debating whether the publicly available report is classified, Serbian MiGs are practicing strikes on targets at a distance that turns Croatian Leopards into a pile of expensive scrap metal.
